Well, the first transmission was replaced at 88k miles in February 2025 at a reputable shop. Just heard from the dealership today that we are waiting to hear from the warranty company for another replacement at 111k miles. This is nuts. I haven't towed anything with this truck since before the transmission replacement and have had only a couple hundred pounds of payload at any one time, so definitely not overtaxing the thing. For those who noticed anything funny with fourth gear, do not ignore it, as that was my first symptom both times that something was wrong. Fingers crossed as the extended warranty expires in 6k miles.....

You say the first one was replaced by a reputable shop, was that a Ford dealer?

It was not and they didn’t rebuild the first one but installed a reman unit from ford. I went to the dealer this time because I wanted a longer warranty just in case as I would like to continue not having a car note. The shop in question has rebuilt a couple of transmissions for family members that are still driving on the rebuilt units 15 years later with more miles on the rebuild than the one the manufacturers built.
It’s just between the transmission issues, my backup camera issues and now the radio issues I’m having, it’s hard to find a reason to keep it.

Have my fingers crossed that my 2024 with the 10R60 transmission does not experience any issues?
One can hope but the way I see it, the 10r80 is supposed to be a more robust transmission than the 10r60 so I would look into extended warranty’s if I were you

I saw the post with that video and the comments about it were……enlightening
I'm not knocking the shop and they seem like they're very skilled in transmissions. But to say the 10R80 is a great transmission and they've never seen or had a valve problem was a little concerning to me.

Hopefully they can fix it right for you now and I don't blame you for wanting to trade it in. You spend a lot of money for a good vehicle and it should be dependable and not have you worried about being broken down or left stranded.

Fortunately I dont put a lot of miles on the truck . I have 13K right now and the powertrain warranty is 5yr./60K from Ford so I'll have the truck all paid off in 2028. If I need to trade it in at that time,I will

I just paid mine off six months ago after 2.5 years and was hoping to go at least 3 years before considering a new vehicle but perhaps not. We shall see.

What were your symptoms with fourth gear? I’m noticing a lurch/delayed shift between three and four with mine. If I drive it in tow or sport mode and keep the RPM’s over 2500, I can avoid it and get it to shift ok. I’m also out of warranty so whether I address it now or later, I’m out of pocket a good chunk of change.

Dave, did you watch any of their other videos? What I took for the original video on that thread was that dealers were too quick to condemn the transmission and recommend a replacement rather than attempting to fix it. Tri City was recommending repairing the 10r80 and stated that they have never see one so bad they had to do a complete rebuild on it. I watched another one of their videos on the 10r80 and they claimed they have repaired a lot of them and the average repair bill ranges from $3000-$5000. That would seem to imply they are doing more than resetting the adaptive learning. I guess the real question for Tri City Transmission would be how often do they have to replace 10r80 valve body and CDF drum.

No, I didn't watch any of their other videos. One thing that sounded concerning was when they said (paraphrasing here) they didn't recall ever seeing one with bad valve bodies. He also said it's on the Internet and you have to be careful of what you read on there because there's a lot of false information there.

We've seen several here who had bad valve bodies so my BS meter is kind of high now.
