Is It safe to assume that this and the ppe plan will void the 3 year warranty on my transmission?
My dealer installed the Fitzstick on my new transmission when they installed it under warranty. They first verified level in the new transmission using the OEM dipstick and then transferred my Fitzstick to the new transmission. I can’t speak to the pan as mine is the stock one

I doubt those modifications will void your warranty. This is what you are up against.

This is the used Mercon ULV fluid that I pumped out of my 10R80 transmission at 18,000 miles! It is as black as coal! Looks like diesel engine oil!

When new, this fluid new is a cherry red translucent oil. My transmission was acting crazy, so much so that I let it sit for 8 months while I investigated what was going on and how to limit further damage. I changed the fluid 3 times in 1,000 miles and added LubeGard Platinum, then ran the "The 10R80 Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle Perform after any reset or fluid change" procedure. All the craziness ceased.

However, to prevent a recurrence, I put together an action plan and have implemented the steps that I believe will eliminate any further issues with the 10R80 transmission.

Steps I am doing to insure my 10R80 Transmission has a long life

  1. Install a MBS Dipstick - Done
    - This allows easy fluid level check and with a $15 transfer pump you can remove 60% of the fluid and replace with clean without the need to crawl under and drop the pan. 3 cycles of fluid change over 1,000 miles will give you 95%-98% clean fluid. I get 7.5 qts out each cycle.

  2. Install a high quality aluminum pan - Done
    - Drops fluid temps by 10F-15F

  3. Install a ScanGauge - Done
    - Set it to monitor transmission fluid temperature. The try to keep it below 200F.

  4. Add the performance tune of of your choice - Done
    - And before you buy makes sure they have modified the transmission shift points to remove the low speed lugging. This will further eliminate heat build up

  5. Add an external transmission cooler - Purchased, and in modification process to install
    - This one is the hardest to accomplish, but has the biggest payback. Target fluid temps to be 150F - 165F, and set cooling fan accordingly. Fluid temps at this heat range will insure the ULV will last for 100K miles.

If you can't or will not cool the fluid to this level, expect to need fluid changes every 20K-30K miles. Plan and execute unless you like paying Ford for a new transmission.

  6. Reset transmission every 30K miles or at the first hint of transmission shift changes. - Done
It's quick and can be done in 30 minutes simply following the driving procedure below.

The 10R80 Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle Perform after any reset or fluid change

Perform the adaptive learning drive cycle on a level road surface as follows:
  1. Record, and then clear any DTC’s
  2. Drive the vehicle until the engine and transmission reach normal operating temperature.
  3. Accelerate from a stop with light throttle (15%), ensuring that upshifts 1 through 8 occur at engine speeds between 1300-1600 rpm.

  4. Continue to accelerate (may apply slightly more throttle after 7-8 upshift at 32-38 mph (51-61 km/h) until you achieve 55 mph (88 km/h) and the 8-9 and 9-10 shifts complete.

  5. Brake very gently to a complete stop and hold the foot brake for five (5) seconds.

  6. Shift the transmission to Neutral. Wait 1 second.

  7. Shift the transmission to Reverse. Wait 2 seconds.

  8. Shift the transmission to Neutral. Wait 1 second.

  9. Shift the transmission to Drive. Wait 2 seconds.

  10. Repeat Steps 3 through 9 six (6) additional times.

  11. After the final step, place the vehicle in park and cycle the ignition key off. Wait 3-5 minutes before driving.
Given the complexity of the TCM control strategy, the engineers made every effort to allow for partial operation of the unit under most failure conditions.

I assume so being that it says it twice lol. He got double banned
I understand that being double banned isn’t automatic for first offences and is almost always preceded by double secret probation.

That’s less than 20k miles?!?

What happened to the days when vehicles were equipped with the stuff that actually made them reliable to go the distance?

And I just this week watched Animal House...where i was reminded of that exact phrase!
