Uhh sure an offset USB port would have been nice but I think you're nitpicking a little bit here. The pocket perfectly holds a plugged in wound up cable with a phone that neatly sets on top. I don't have issues with cables bending because it's sized well and since everything is contained, I don't have messy cables in my dash area. I can assure you that since this is a modern vehicle with two USB ports in the cubby that is sized just larger than the average smart phone, this storage compartment's primary design intent is for phone(s).Says who? Even if we agreed on that, why is the USB in the center. Would it not work with your phone if it was to the far left or far right instead of smack dab in the middle?
