Not our Ranger but our 21 CR V. I will try to keep it short as possible but it is interesting. At 32000 the factory Hankook's were wore out. Not wanting to spend $1000 for a set of Michelins tire dealer gave me a price on a set of Blackhawk Streets out the door price w / road hazard for $572 & change. Made appointment to give a day or two to pick them up. Went to get them put on. They pull the car in shop. I can see it thru there window, never got off the ground. The shop manager walks in looking at me, First thought WTF did you hit. He says I got bad news put we got it covered. Tires sent to them were 235/60R17 instead of 18. We will put a set of Firestone Destination LE3s on for the same price. Do it I say. This is the interesting part. After leaving my TPMS Problem light comes on. After several back & forths adjusting pressure no change. The problem was 2 of them were made at Bridgestone SC Plant & 2 were made at Bridgestone Japan Plant. they were 235 /60R18's but they were not all the same size height wise. Left with a new set of Michelin Deffender 2's same price. Side note we have indirect TPMS no sensors in the wheels otherwise the light probably would not have come on. :like:

I learned a long time ago that when price differences are that far apart, don't go the cheap route. if you need thousand dollar tires .. never go below 700 in my experience and opinion. it never turns out well

Very interesting Larry - my Passat has an indirect sytem (There is a reset button for when I swap winter/summer) and you’re right - if you had TPMS sensors in your wheels, you wouldn’t have known.

btw - your tire shop is pretty awesome - went way out of their way for you. ?

I agree with you on the shop. They were very easy to work with & willing to get it figured out.
I got tired of recalibrating the TPMS.

So if anything it sounds like the first time shop you went to has some problems to say the least. Gotcha.

As I'm sure he could look at the plate saying where the tires were made something tells me the tires were off on the actual size too. From the beginning I suspect it all has to do with the shop he went to.

Not sure what this all means. If you read my post I stated they were made at 2 different Bridgestone plants which really should not matter. The tire shop is no back yard shop. There are over 70 thru out the Midwest. Shop just gets what their warehouse sends.

My wife has a CRV and I've learned, the hard way, that the tires on the right and left side need to match exactly. Even 1000 miles of wear, on only one side, is enough to trigger the tire light.

So were the SC tires or the Japan tires the defective ones? Speaking of tires, this truck was parked in my office's parking lot this week. Check out the wear on that passenger tire.

They never measured the height of each tire. That being said I would assume the Japan's since they were both different even to each other compared to the SC one's which were the taller one's.

Mid-Size

To throw some options out there... I took a gamble trying www.Simpletire.com to great success. The mark up some retailers charge that +1K for rubber is not surprising.

This new place I was able to source much more options and at a price that was way lower. You can have the tires sent to an installer near you if they are partnered (this may be the only negative depending where you live) for what 4 tires installed would have cost I got 5 and installed for $150 less total.

Something to consider...
