I added the velcro wrap in the picture you posted of my truck. It's been 3+ years and no signs of wear on mine.
Yeah, and I just can't figure out how that helps. You have it so the upper part of the cable passes by the upper portion of the damper, right? Mine gets bound up right where it passes over the lower damper mount, and it also get pinched between the damper piston and lower damper braket when fully closed. You can see the bottom of the damper shift when closing it.

That's strange because the wrap should push against the damper and lay against it like in my pics. The lower part of the cable just rest against the damper piston but never gets pinched between it and the bed.

Oh! I see. When I close mine, the cable wants to go past the right side of the upper part of the damper. Then the cable pinches in between the right side of the bottom of the damper and the left side of the bottom damper bracket. I need to reevaluate this. A friend suggested I disconnect the cable and give it a twist one way or the other to see if it changes where it goes when closed. Thanks for the great pics.

Anytime James. You can just see where the bottom of the cable bends but never tucks inside. When it's fully opened the cable still has a slight kink in it but it never gets pinched in between and nothing's worn. It's been 3+ years and I work out of my truck so I'm in n out of the bed a lot. Hopefully you can just more the wrap a little and it shoots the cable. The wrap is down about 2 1/2" between the lines.

You know I was never one to be pro or con of the tailgate damper. I could always see the reasoning behind it and just it not mattering that much to have one.

That being said, I was given one as a Christmas present (could have thought of other things for the ranger I would have rather had, but I'm happy for just about anything). And I gotta say it actually is nice to have. It was simple to install and it is kind of nice to open the tailgate and walk away to grab whatever I was going to put back there.

I'm not saying I would have bought one myself, but I am pleasantly surprised at how much I have enjoyed it so far.

Just my $.02. For what it's worth.

Disappointed in your response. I was expecting to see that a little 303 would make it glide in there smoothly.
May be time for a new damper and 303 pusher.?
