Do you have a VIN for your Ranger?

Maybe your dealer did not include your email for notification. Or got it wrong.

I got the same emails on the Lighting, and then one that pretty much said "oops, those emails are not for you. We'll let you know when you can actually configure your Lightning." But that is for another forum...

I did get a VIN by calling Ford support. I got my order number from my salesperson and they have my email correct. They have my email correct on the order sheet.

I originally ordered (Lariat Screw) on Jan 3 and wondered how bad the wait would be.

I was scheduled later that month for a build week of 2/28. With chip driven shutdowns, I was later notified I was being pushed out like many were. My order still hasn't been scheduled so I have officially given up.

The dealer just got something similar to what I ordered (though it is 4x4, I ordered 4x2) so I pulled the trigger. I'll be picking it up on Saturday and I'm excited to have the wait over. I'm not good at waiting for large purchases.

How much impact does dealer volume have on production times?
Quite a bit really. If the dealer doesn't have allocations then you're not getting order filled quickly. A large volume dealer may get 5+ Ranger allocations a month where a small low volume dealer might be lucky to get 2 allocations.

Ordered and received email confirmation from both Ford and my dealer on Mon, Mar 21st. 8 days have elapsed and no VIN emails. Seems like some got a VIN in a week, others, weeks or months.

I'm just anxious to get that first step towards a rough estimate of build and delivery date. Could be June, could be September, who knows?

@GearHd6, you suggest dealership's volume and allocations influence a custom order turnaround time? This is verifiable fact? I don't know one way or the other but I could see how a small low volume dealer would not get priority for vehicles they order to sell on their lot... but a custom order that goes straight to Ford? Why would Ford care what dealer that came from, then de-prioritize and manipulate the line to at the expense of some and the benefit of others? Sucks if true, I ordered from a smaller dealer for a 1.5% reduction on sales tax (that, and they were much more transparent than other big dealers).

A dealer still needs an allocation in order to have Ford pull that Ranger order. I just went through it with my Ranger. I tried shopping local at a small dealer and kept getting bumped because they only had a couple allocations a month and there were people ahead of me or they had a more build-able spec than me. I then moved my order to a bigger, larger volume dealer and got my Ranger picked up within a couple weeks.

You going to Iowa to pick up your ride? Noticed you live in CA.
I don't know about the person you asked, but I live in CA and indeed will travel to Granger to pick up my truck when it is built and delivered.

It's not just saving on the purchase price but everything tied to the purchase price (sales tax, registration fees, license plate fees [initial plus renewal, all tied to purchase price]).

You are going to need to wait more than this. I received Email confirmation from Ford on 3/4 and waiting on VIN email. I was hoping to get in production in May, but may have missed my window. It's just sit and wait. Likely 4-6 months from order to delivery.

12-16 weeks is about the norm from ordering to delivery

Just be careful CA doesn't try and collect any additional taxes/fees for your out of state vehicle purchase. I read a couple people here didn't realize their specific state will STILL collect taxes on out of state vehicle purchases when they try and register their vehicles in their state of residency. Just make sure you do your due diligence ;) Otherwise, I'm sure it is worth it for some to go out of state for their vehicles :like:

FYI update:
Ordered 01/22
Confirmed 01/24
Scheduled build 04/04
Changed build to 04/11
Changed build back to 04/04
In production 03/30 (no sticker yet)
Seems to be moving along quicker than anticipated.
:fingerscrossed:
Awesome that they actually moved the build back to the earlier date!
Thanks adding hope to my order!
