Hey folks, first time poster long time reader. My 2019 Ranger's heater made a loud POP this weekend and now the heat barely get above a tepid 70° or so. I live in northern Nevada and it's frequently in the teens and this barely keep the cabin tolerable. I looked up my VIN and found my truck was manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant in 10/19. I also found a subsequent recall for the heaters that permits a repair for this part for trucks assembled in this factory between 8/1/19 and 9/27/19. Meaning my truck missed the cut by 3 damn days. Do any of you have any advice as to how I can convince a dealership that my truck should fall within the boundaries of this recall and needs to be repaired? I feel like there's just no way in the 3 days between that my (currently broken) heater is coincidentally using a different part. Have any of you ever successfully lobbied for a repair to be done under warranty/recall despite the vin lookup saying otherwise? Here's a bonus pic of my rig

That recall is only for the blower motor.

The loud pop is more likely the heater box which has been problematic on some 2019-2020 Rangers.

Extensive thread on it HERE

Mine did that this weekend with the same symptoms. When I got i home from my trip, I removed the passenger side actuator and reattached and no more problem. I think that it hung up and then either jammed the lever that moves the heat control or was just out of sync. If you have not solved this already try removing and resintalling the actuator, may just help.

Thanks for this. I will definitely be taking matters into my own hands. The scamanic just quoted the work at ~$4k saying the entire dashboard needs to come out to access the blower assembly? Gonna get all of the part numbers, relevant recalls, status codes, etc and raise hell

Sorry to hear about your scenario....but the information you were quoted for repair is correct....Parts are probably in the range of $600 to $700 (+ any applicable taxes) and the rest is labor probably 10 to 12 hours...a day and a half to 2 days

The entire dash, steering wheel, console does get removed to get access to the HVAC assembly.

There are quite a few threads covering this issue already.

You can try with the dealership but I would also reach out to Ford also. Hopefully the more of us that contact Ford, consumer agencies, etc., the more momentum this will get to address…or maybe not.

I'm in Canada but had the same issue after warrany was up. Full dash out repair to replace the heater box. Contacted Ford Corporate and they paid for the repair. I know every case is different but it is absolutly worth the call.

Now I will cast my vote for "Inspirational Post" of 2022 - having said that I was getting close to buying an Xwarranty and now I'm back to riding the fence.

but good for you on your success and wish others with the HVAC affliction the same result.

Steve,

I would appreciate it if you could tell me the build date of your truck. TIA

Thanks for this. A few updates: I did indeed reach out to Ford directly (via their little chat widget on their website) and the person I spoke with indicated it may be covered under the 70k Emissions warranty for the state of California. Of course, my mechanic made no allusions to doing such a repair, so I'm left to reach back out and play a game of he said she said.

Also weirdly enough, the heat started working again out of nowhere and I was able to replicate the popping noise when I set the head to the lower (feet area) blower. It sounds primarily on the passenger side (which is what other people on this thread have reported). I know it will stop working again, but I am encouraged by some of the comments about not necessarily needing to replace the entire blower unit (Part# 18478). Hopefully more to come

I am jealous of the folks getting in and out of the shops so quickly. I scheduled my appointment at the beginning of November and I don't actually get to the service center until this week! I had to literally put on my sled gear just to drive to the stores and back during the -30F degree cold snap. I have a -15degree bag and three thick blankets laying in the back seat in case anything else decides to break down before the appointment.

I called the shop ahead of time to check if they even had the part beforehand, but haven't heard back. Unfortunately I didn't pay close enough attention to the TSB and misread the part number, but I would assume they wouldn't even take my word anyway. They probably want to feel the cold air, play with the knobs, and hear the clicking for themselves.

I was also going to finally use points and get the Ford-works-whatever-service while I was at it. But I had to cancel that portion of service because the Ford points literally expired last week.

Anyway, hopefully I can finish out the last half of winter with a working heater!

Yes my issue was with A/C but sounds like the actuator issue other people had with both heat and A\C that required entire dashboard to be removed to replace. Luckily mine started working again out of the blue, but I know it’s only a matter of time.
