Follow up:
I have installed hardware cloth over the engine air intake.
Not too pretty but seems to be effective.
I have looked for the cabin air intake but no joy. The logistics of sealing the intake from inside the cabin are daunting to say the least.
Question:
Is there a single point intake for cabin air and if so, where?

Bump.
I’m on the road for work this week and got a phone call from the missus. She can’t drive the truck as something has very obviously crawled into the cabin air intake and DIED.

So my question remains: Where is the cabin air intake located?

I’m assuming it’s on the passenger side firewall but man it’s crowded around there. Very hard to see anything.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Problem resolved(?). Clinic to be posted shortly as info was hard to come by other than disassembling and observing.

If the little buggers are like Colorado field mice ... that's not gonna hold them back ... they chewed through chicken wire to get into my dryer vent. LOL ... what a mess.

Fingers x’d that Colorado field mice don’t migrate east then.

Dismantled the glove box and center console looking for the source of the smell.
First pic is from the squirrels gaining cabin access earlier this year:

Further into the Center console I got the stronger the smell until I found the source under the emergency brake:

First priority is locating points of ingress. Rear cabin vents and cold cabin air intake are all I can find.
Rear vents first. Although there was no sign of rodent activity behind the liner, being able to stick a finger through and touch the bed was enough incentive for me to seal them. I thought I had hardware cloth on hand but no. I did have some 12” aluminum flashing so made a couple of covers with a drill press. Just random holes:

Added some polyester fibre batting before closing up to reduce road noise (rear seat removed previously for storage room)

A bunch of reading and I found the cabin air intake.
ABF86-FFA-EA2-C-464-A-8-E51-74-F8-B56393-F6.jpg

Removal of plastic cowling and wiper arms was required (shut up…..). Even made a wiper arm puller from a sliding barn door hanger.

Hind sight is 20/20. If my old eyes had looked a bit closer I would have realized that the cowling was split. No wiper removal required. Dammit. Spilt milk and all that.
Drove a 2hr round trip to retrieve the hardware cloth that I MEANT to bring with me originally.

Installed hardware cloth over the open air intake.

Assembly grease was required to save my sanity trying to install sheet metal screws at that angle.
8-C8-A6-C15-1-A0-D-44-EC-AE64-C2174-F043-B63.jpg

Note: install it over the inner openings. If it’s installed over the outer openings you have wasted your time.
Finally, I sealed the edges with some marine adhesive as further screws were impossible to install. Does nothing for aesthetics, but hopefully will keep the l’il bastards from squeezing past.

Thanx. I’ve benefitted greatly from info and member input here. Thought it only fair to share what I’ve learned.

Thom, that's some good old American ingenuity there my friend. If needed I can rent out several Black snakes, and I'll even throw in a King snake or two for the right price. The woods behind my house are full of them. With the snakes, and the Hawks there aren't many of those meeses that make it to the house. But, them there meeses can be quite presistant. :)

Update:
2 weeks later. NO mouse turds on my cabin air filter. Zero.
Looks promising.
