I use sport mode at all times below 55 mph. When I drive the really twisty roads the Ozarks are known for , I will use the gear selector button on the shifter for "manual style" up and down, engine braking and acceleration.....?.....I call it Sport Plus Mode....
I would like to amend my earlier post,

I use the D mode on icy and snow packed roads....less abrupt acceleration and down shift , less chance for wheel spin/loss of traction

I like Sport for on ramps. With the FPT and Pedal Commander, I'm doing 90 before I realize it! I regularly keep it in Drive most of the time.
I didn't realize gas smell in oil was common. I noticed it the last time I checked the oil. Changing it soon and will drive in Sport after that to see if it makes a difference.

I get the top fuel dragster feeling using sport mode.
Pull up to a light.
Put it into S, upshift to 2nd.
Double foot it and hold RPM's high enough to not spin the tires.
As soon as the light turns green punch that pedal through the floor.
Hold on tight, and don't forget to shift yourself....it won't

how big a hit do the mpgs take? im already struggling to get 17 in town
I get 17 easy. V10 or 4cyl they all get truck gas mileage

Live in south texas all flat. So only use sport mode to play or merge on freway.
Tow mode for hill country or mountains of Colorado, or towing, ir hauling stuff

Who regularly uses sport mode? I'm getting to where I use it more and more cause the truck is so much more responsive.
I drove mine almost exclusively in Sport mode. Much more responsive and no ASS mode!

Tow mode would be a better daily driver if you dont like the high RPM's , but it goes crazy coming down steep hills sometimes and i get clunky downshifts with it ...

I use it sparingly I'm sure I can see the gas needle moving down when it's on
