Better odds of getting struck by lightning in the midst of getting attacked by a shark in your backyard, all happening while you are sipping a beer and claiming your lottery winnings.looking for a good used one.
Similar things are happening with the new Tacos...massive transmission over heating and failures...
You're correct in that assumption. I worked in the auto industry as a parts supplier for the big 3 for 6 years (2014-2020) as an engineer. The whole auto industry is all about the almighty dollar, one company paid 8 million for a new corrosion resistant design and when we told them what it would add per unit that we manufacture, (less than you pay for a McDonalds meal) that auto maker dropped the new design because it cost to much i.e. cut out too much out of the profit margin. It's all TOTAL bullshit, the corporations know it and they will do anything they can to pay as little as possible. I guarantee they don't give one rat's ass about whether anyone gets injured or dies, ALL they care about is that bottom line.
Hope everyone stays safe in their vehicles and good luck.
Well, this is the carmaker that brought us the Pinto. Ford might be hoping that build quality will take enough trucks off the road that in 10 years those who are left won't cost them as much money.A couple things I took away from this article, the ford authority article and the PDF in the AP News article.
1 - Ford says this has not caused any accidents or injuries to date. (Ford Authority) Interesting that this has occurred often enough in the 550K vehicles that it requires a safety recall, but no one has been injured and no accidents have occured. . . .
Population : Number of potentially involved : 552,188Estimated percentage with defect : 1 %
2 - It took a decade for Ford to realize that this was an issue . . . really . . .
3 - Below is from the attached PDF:
Description of the Cause : Ford has identified various causal factors of an intermittent OSS signal in this population of vehicles, including contamination, power short to ground, connector corrosion, connector pin swaging, and incorrect outputs from the OSS sensor.Description of Remedy Program : Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the PCM calibration updated. There will be no charge for this service. Ford provided the general reimbursement plan for the cost of remedies paid for by vehicle owners prior to notification of a safety recall in May 2023. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accordance with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
How exactly is reprogramming a module going to fix this issue? My guess is that they are changing the programming to ignore a loss of signal from the OSS sensor or tell it to ignore signal loss above a certain wheel speed? wonder what issues this could cause down the road.
Only 10 more years until Ford recognizes there is a real issue with our trannys. . . lol
So true. I like the new ranger dash. It really has knobs for the hvac system. I wonder if there will be a mod coming our way soon. Hate to buy another same truck just for the dash.Better odds of getting struck by lightning in the midst of getting attacked by a shark in your backyard, all happening while you are sipping a beer and claiming your lottery winnings.
"Good used trucks" at a reasonable price have been the sasquatch of the automotive world for 25+ years. Sucks.
we should all have a new EV by then anyway so our failing un warrantied dinoburners will just poof out on time. well played auto industry / big govt brother...Well, this is the carmaker that brought us the Pinto.
