Stupid kills. I'm amazed at the stories that come out of the White Mountains this time of year. This year is expected to be worse than most because Covid drove many people out of the cities and into the woods for recreation. January was almost Spring like, but February is normal. People don't realized these little mountains are very deadly.

No different than here, we're full of stupid people. I can't tell you how many times a week you'll turn on the news and see another hiker having to be rescued because of dehydration. It's 110 outside and they went for a day hike with a 16oz bottle of water! Heck I'll drink 1-1.5 gals of water a day and some days that's still not enough. Idiots are just putting the rescuers lifespan's in danger cuz of their own stupidity.

Before retiring to the vacation kingdom I lived in Ft Worth for 35+ years and never saw this extended cold. Few of the homes are built for this type weather. The heat is generally via a heat exchanger, ie a/c running in reverse, which means less effective heat output the colder it gets. There's also emergency heat via electric heat strip, which would be barely adequate to keep it warm without power outages.. Same type system here in Florida, but it will never be 0 deg F.

How much ice? I just got back from 4 days of no power - we had the biggest ice storm in 50 years they say. We had an inch to an inch and half of ice on everything. Tons of tress down everywhere - over the road, over power lines. It is a huge mess. We lost 6 trees ourselves, but had no damage thank goodness.

I hate ice. I'd take a lot of snow anyday over a lot of ice.

Yup, ice sucks. It was enough to bring some trees down here and there and branches were hanging low but we never lost power. Much better than our last big ice storm October 2017, power was out for a couple days.

Glad you got your power back on Rob. Wood stoves are a life saver in these instances! No worries here, the lunatics have been running the asylum.

He got out the old fashioned way before I was ready to take on the morning ?.

I don't have any straps or cables in my truck yet either so I wouldn't have been able to help him anyways. Aside from pushing or digging that is.

I'm not actually sure I would've been able to pull his truck anyways. The snow was super deep on my street, even I had a few struggle moments in 4x4 until I was able to hit the next intersection where the plow already got. I don't have any weight in my bed yet.

I hate it for all of ya’ll going through this harsh winter weather. Especially people living in areas that aren’t used to it. I hope everyone’s power is restored asap. I pray everyone will stay safe and warm.

Very nice to meet you sir. We're full-time RVers and have enjoyed the Conroe area very much. Our goal for our month-long visit was to hike the forests north and east of here. With the exception of the killer winter storm of 2021, it's been a very nice visit. It's beautiful country here. Your W.G. Jones State Forest is a hidden treasure. So are the burgers at Willie's Burgers and BBQ here in C&S. Next week, we're off to hike Big Thicket.
