I believe I said in my opening post "I'm feed up with the complaining of the people about high gas prices when they drive like they do".
No skin off my back how you drive. If what I observed offended you , too Bad!

My exact quote " I'm fed up with people complaing about high gas prices when they don't give a hoot about trying to save. Just keep feeding the oil companies! "

I don't think most people understand the thin strand this country is hanging by. The war on fossil fuels is going to make everyone poor, no matter what financial planning we may have done. Everything needs energy, when energy costs skyrocket, so does the price of everything else, except the value of your money. It really sucks to be nearing retirement and watching all my sacrifices to be frugal and save be washed away by idiots.
Not just this country, but the world and the human race. And not just fossil fuels, but trying to provide all the necessities to the exponentially growing ~8 billion people on this planet.

It sucks even more to be 35-40 years from "retirement" knowing darn well the world will be even more of a hell hole than it is now. Honestly, every person my age I know is convinced we'll never be able to actually see retirement, whether you actually work, save, and be frugal like I do or not. We'll just work until we're dead because we'll never actually have enough money to retire. That is if we don't get cancer from all the toxic things we live with everyday or the bad genes we have and die at the ripe old age of 60.

One of the reasons my wife and I are deciding to make drastic changes to our way of life sooner rather than later. If I'm going to work until I die anyways, might as well make life worth it along the way.

Come on man, you are checking off all the boxes in the stereotypical old man boomer checklist.

"When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years". — Mark Twain

Later version
"You know, when I was 18, I thought my father was pretty dumb. After a while, when I got to be 21, I was amazed to find out how much he’d learned in three years".

Keep digging. I'm in my 40's.

You are a judgmental boomer. Accept it.

I'm a judgmental not boomer. See? Easy.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Lets put things in perspective; a cop in CA can have a starting salary of $100,000. Here in GA I make about half that with some decent OT for the year. 93 is $5.00 a gallon here, funny how that works.

However, my fun money is not generated from job thank god.
This is true, but.... a shack in Georgia doesn't cost $500K and be considered a fixer-upper, and rent on a 3 bedroom tract house is $2400/mo. Gas here is $6 and up for regular. I used to live there, and if it wasn't for the weather and black flies I still would. As a LEO out here I only made that much with a good bit of OT.

My little 1050sqft 3BR/2BA no garage house cost me $124,000 after closing fees to be built in 2010. I have the smallest floor plan this side of the county. There were only 2 other houses built like mine before the developers quickly realized the area was blowing up and switched to to larger homes.

In 2022 my house hut is now worth $210,000.

I am flanked by houses that sold for $175,000 now worth around $300,000. (the good news is my energy bill is nice because of the two story houses on each side of me. lol)

I had not planned this, but this type of market has benefits.
I see the same in my area of NC. However, homes the size of yours are selling for the high 200's to the low 300's. That's the benifit we get for living to damned close to Charlotte.

Us old(er) farts need younger guys to be more productive and work harder to fix things, like global warming, overpopulation, national debt, high gas prices, crowded highways, excessive wait times at fast food drive-ins and most of all bad ACC boxes in our Rangers. No time to post on here

You mean the 50-60hr work weeks, having less or no kids, and the desire to switch to renewable energy, more public transportation, and remote work isn't good enough? We're trying, but all the old farts in positions of power (government and corporate leaders) are too greedy and stuck in their ways to give two craps about us kids and our future.

But it's not like I'm not bitter or frustrated or anything.

This is like complaining that you still see people eating out, or still buying new iPhones.

Posts comes off as a closet "Leave my president alone!" call out.

Oh and Boomer Thread (tm).
I came here to say this and love that you have pioneered this saying.

100% boomer thread.

Well I don't think it will stop for me, my house is rising an average of $10,000 a month. I am smack dab in the area that is blowing up the most in my county right now. Not to mention two brand new schools (not present when house originally built) are right across from my neighborhood.

They can't build infrastructure or housing quick enough for the influx of residents.

The government don't care, more than half the taxes on fuel are for them.
what a great way to re-fill the bank accounts after giving so much money away during the pandemic. We suffer for their free spending ways.
Actually, ALL taxes go to the gub'ment, but our president cares. He is pushing for a suspension of federal gas taxes, which will save us a whole 18 cents a gallon!

Unfortunately, people your age won't have a choice. Either the retirement age will be raised again due to the large number of elderly that will be on SSI and Medicare costing the government too much, or companies forcing people out of the job market because it's costing them too much in payroll and insurance benefits.

That is the biggest downfall for all, believing that redistributing trillions of dollars will affect the climate.

I mean, either way we're screwed, if we even make it that far. So justification to enjoy life while we can still stands.

I guess that's one way to look at it, unless of course, you DO make it that far. I 100 percent agree with you to enjoy your life now while you are young. But if you would consider some advice from a battle scarred "boomer" that worked 6 days a week for 30 plus years, don't put your future financial situation in the hands of the government. You'll end up in a crappy rest home that smells like pee. Visit one of those places and the poor people that have to live there, and you will be motivated to put away as much as you can for as long as you can, in spite of what's going on. Back in '08, my retirement account went down to 25% of it's original value-but it came back, and this time it will too.

On another note, and this isn't directed at anyone in particular, please be careful about broad brushing us "boomers". We have contributed to this mess, but we certainly didn't create it. Every generation learns it's values from the one before it; unfortunately, as is the case for most generations, only the most narcissistic, power hungry, inept fools become our leaders. This will happen with your generation as well. At least we are trying to turn the corner; the one before us was very shortsighted, especially environmentally (i.e., dumping thousands of tons of DDT off the coast of Los Angeles in 50 gallon drums in the 40's and 50's) and socially (i.e., good old boy shit, wives expected to be subservient, racial issues).
One thing I learned early is that you treat people with more life experience than you with respect, regardless of your feelings. You don't know what they have been through or had to deal with in their lives. When you complain about them, quite frankly it's more of a reflection of you, then of them.
