I here good Things about both companies and their tunes.
Leaning towards SCT only because I had their tune on an F-150 and found it to be almost perfect When comparing it to a Dyno tune that I had done later on. We were surprised to see that the SCT tune was near-perfect. And the several tunes that I had gotten from five star tuning was way off, It produced very lean conditions and actually less power then factory settings. But as far as this Ranger goes I'm hearing a lot of good things about livernois and not much of anything about sct.
If this has been discussed already could someone please Point me to the Post, thank you.

So.i can't speak for SCT but I can Speak for Livernois. When you get the tune from Livernois you get the following tunes: high octane performance(90-93 octane), low octane performance(87-89 octane), and tow tun(87-93 octane).

I first ran the high octane performance then about a week or two later i got the tow tune as it just got released. Now why did i go tow tune you ask? Well for a few reason actually!! For one after you refresh the PCM the transmission goes into learn mode and is a pain in the ass. Second I have a truck wich means I am most likely going to do truck stuff with it. Maybe not every day but enough that the tow tune is optimal. Also the tow tune has a nice focus on low end torque and overall efficiency vs max power like the performance tunes. When you are Offroad you dont want max power either.

Now for 5Star there is a big reason why I dont like it....... It does not have Barometric(Altitude) compensation being used wich is why it will go lean or rich depending.

Hope this info helps.

As I'm sure you know there is talk about fuel getting into the oil, do you think that tuning like this is going to really aggravate the situation?

No problems here, last Blackstone less than 0.5 %

Im pretty sure the problem is un seated Rings..I had the problem at first >2.0 %
after 1500 miles I ran it hard (get to third gear and do pulls in third gear, from there, up then down, up then down..) solved ...my last Blackstone was less than 0.5%...

When your Talking barometric, altitude, do you mean that five star is not using that when they make their Tunes or that the altitude adjustment is not built in to the tunes that they send their customers?

5 star does not use it what so ever. Our trucks stock use it to adjust the Barometric table to halo adjust the air fuel ratio much more efficiently. 5 Star actually has a separate tune for high altitude. If you ask me thats pretty stupid on thier part and there has already been reports on here with engine failure thanks to 5 Star

OK, ya when I had my 6.2 f150 dynoed their tunes were way off. If I would have towed heavy with their tunes, it's very likely I would have melted a piston or the whole engine.
Now I understand why 5 stars tunes were so far off.

When you guys tune these ecoboost engines can you and does anyone monitor things like egts?

Livernois gives you the Mytouch Calibrator that can monitor up to 6 things at once. I monitor coolant temp, cylinder head temp, transmission temp, EGT(calculated temp but better than nothing) and barometric pressure with manifold pressure to calculate boost(we dont get a psi boost reading unfortunately).

2016 Focus ST maybe Ranger in a couple days.
Sct can be used on almost any other car so a Ford SCT x4 will be good for all tunable Fords which increases resale value down the road vs a Livernois unit or the Ford Performance unit. Unleashed here.

It is something with the software that Livernois uses. The MAP is manifold absolute pressure wich is measured in inches of Mercury. When in a vacuum it is very accurate but under boost it is double what a PSI reading would be. Part of why I have the BP readout.

The Livernois can be transferred to other vehicles. If you keep the My Touch Calibrator when you get your next vehicle contact them and they will help out. Most likely at a discounted price

So are you using Unleashed Tunes or SCT Tunes?
