I think both have been mentioned price & leakage, but one could save money over the Dorman by finding a suitable drain plug & put it in the OE pan. Why spend the extra money for the Dorman & still have a leak.
Why buy a pan that leaks? And why try to put a plug in a plastic pan that will probably leak when you are done? It is not worth the time and effort, not to mention fluid to have to do this job twice. If the pan flexes at all, there will always be the possibility of leakage.

Wait for that decision. After starting on this thing yesterday at 10am and finishing at 6:30 you could imagine my pissed offness this morning when I found a puddle the size of a large pancake this morning. Dripping from the GD drain plug. Guess I’ll be tearing it back apart. Plug is tight.
Man that sucks, now the question is why?
Threads or Gasket or casting of the thread boss?

I guess it might be a recommendation to fill pan with water before install or a small amount of old fluid to leak check it.
Just be sure to clean and dry it out afterwards.

Not sure yet. with my back issues there was just no way I could do a second day up under there today. Once I get the new one in and old one off I will find out why one way or the other. Going have to get a few things as I’ll have to salvage and filter the fluid I just put in it to take it back off. I shouldn’t have expected it to go over without a glitch somewhere. I’ve got the worst luck of anyone.

I hear you on the back thing, what I would give for a hoist

Get a clean bucket and pop the plug, walk away for a bit, get a new sealing washer/O ring, pump or pour the fluid back in, at least now you can do that standing up.

It's not bad luck, it's just a bad plug seal!

I hope it warms up enough!

Thank you very much! Wow, #94, how cool, I'm up to 114 so far, when I got to 100, I had to PM the OP and thank him for opening up this rabbit hole :like:

I really have to appreciate the members here, the positive input and encouragement has been great, I wouldn't have gone down this path without it?

Those who have become customers, (and the ones waiting) through your support and input, I have been able to go beyond the first batch of 60, to ordering enough parts to make 300 of them!

Thanks everyone!

I'm still at it, just stuck waiting on top fittings at the moment, it's always supplier issues:angry:

Actually now that I'm stuck again waiting on parts, I'm going to get out some of the updated sticks, I will PM those of you and get some measurements!

This is a worthwhile investment to anyone currently owning or planning to own the current generation of Ranger for years to come. Hopefully this + the addition of a pan that allows for easier maintenance can help with the transmission woes people have been experiencing.

Since we are starting to see some transmission failures if an aftermarket part such as a different transmission pan of dipstick has been installed can that be grounds that the mod caused the transmission failure??

Hmmmm...........

Good question, my local dealer said they didn't care when I asked about the trans pan, I haven't put it on yet but I was curious, but, I used to work there 23 years ago, I should ask about if that's for anyone.

It used to be the simple, common type accessories were never a problem, only if it directly was the cause of failure, a trans pan that leaked as an example, or a aftermarket exhaust that melted a shock or something, but I don't know if that's changed.

Finally installed mine. It was a breeze. This is a really nice quality piece.

So I checked it cold and I was at 3. The install video guy had his at 1. So when I get a chance I'll do a drive and check hot but I hope I'm not low from the factory....
Just to follow up after a long drive and on level ground I was at 5 exactly. A little high, opposite of what the cold reading showed.

5 is on the lower side of full, 4 would be the max full, the way Ford did the stick is odd, 1 is overfull, 6 is really low, backwards in my opinion, 1 should be empty and 6 should be a higher fluid level, but, I wasn't going to change anything, so I copied it, backwards or not.
