Here’s the road going into Mammoth, and Ginger after 1.5 hours in the parking lot at Mammoth Brewing. We drove up for dinner on Saturday night.

Rear end broke loose on me going around a corner yesterday in 4 wd truck so I put 300 pounds of sandbags in it this morning. Will see if it helps next time. Takes off great in a straight line so I attribute the sliding to the low weight in the back and it being so much higher than the front.

Yeah, added weight in the rear helps. Most of my F-150 friends do that, via a few sandbags. I have never needed the extra weight in the rear of my Ranger, likely due to both the Ranger's short wheelbase and more likely my use of Nokian snow tires.

Did you lift, level to get those to fit? Assume no crash bars.
I'm on Fox 2.0s set at 2", no front crash bars with the ARB Summit bumper but I left the high-clearance crash bars in the rear and they don't cause any problems.

No wheel spacers but they're on a Toyota 30mm offset wheel so they stick out more than an OEM steelie would. Still within the fenders.

These would fit a stock truck with high clearance or trimmed crash bars no problem. I use ALL of my suspension travel and have never had a problem with them rubbing.

Much good. I run with 285/70/R17. Totally different beast in winter compared to general grabbers.
My first winter I ran my Duratracs, I thought they were fine until I drove my Fiesta ST on snows back to back and it felt like a dry dirt road in comparison ? bought the Nokians for the next season

Tires are the main factor in snow. Some are better than others.
My OE Bridgestones were okay but then we didn't get a lot of snow last year. I got Cooper AT3's last summer so we'll see how they do. Have two 60 lb bags of Tube Sand in the bed and might get a third.

There's nothing like dedicated winter tires. The handling and braking are so good you'll get annoyed around other drivers without em.

Back to a NFS campground that we clear trails at. Lots more snow here than we seen last year when we camped. (none then) We had stopped to walk the rest of the way in to check the road out. We did drive all the way in. Gee, had the snow tire/wheels taken off this week! Its BoB lake in the Ottawa in case anyone is familiar with the area.

Never heard of Joe perry lake. Are you certain its in the UP of Michigan?
Arlyn,

I’m pretty sure your reference to the Ottawa National Forest, had Desmondo thinking about Joeperry Lake in Bon Echo Park, not too far from Ottawa, Ontario. ?
