Still not a truck. :)
LOL. I bet they sell a shit load of them though. I know three people at work who are wanting to trade in their cars for one. They are going after a different demographic then typical truck buyers.

heres my opinion....a pick-up and a truck are two different things.
just as much as a maverick and a santa cruz, and gasp, a ridgeline are all different than pick-ups.

you want a Truck designation? carry upwards of 10000lbs and i might consider the truck status. I think the F250 starts to get into that category.
The Ranger is not a Truck.
The Ranger is a pickup. its a light utility garden gnome that can take a few nice size toys out camping for the weekend.

I drove an F550 Crew cab 4X4 all over wyoming and colorado and all the way back up to Canada when the contract was over for a few months with a pretty good sized trailer behind it. That sir....was a truck.
I like that. Good opinion.

I kind of view them as "Entry Level" Pickups.

The maverick, along with the other unibody vehicles, are marketed toward younger people with less money to burn, that live in cities, and only need a small "cargo" area for their occasional trips to the home depot or to haul bikes for trail blazing/light camping.

Last week I had a single cinder block in the bed of my truck, I'm just thinking "jesus, I may as well putt around in a smart car at this point".

We have a winner.

Half tons and below are pickups.

The Maverick is a Mexican car/truck, aka Ranchero.

It is not what size the Vehicle is that determines wether or not it is a truck, it is how you use said vehicle. My uncles all have half ton trucks that have lived a hard life on the farm. That’s a truck. And we have all seen one ton trucks without a scratch in the bed - those are pickups. The test is wether or not you care about scratches or dents while using it for work. If yes, you drive a pickup. Just my opinion….
And I won’t let any of my uncles drive my Ranger, they will treat it like a truck.

I can buy that.

With capacities growing today's "half ton" is more of a truck. Regardless, the term "real truck" is silly.

Ok I’ve had my share of F series trucks for the last 40 years. My last one was a 2005 oScrew FX4 with a 4 inch Rancho suspension lift that was desert flyer and plenty of flight time!!
At 65 Years old the new Ranger fits the bill for me, the wife wants a grocery gett’r.. so what.. it has a bed and it’s a truck to her, why in hell would I try to convince her different?
It’s a Ford she wants.
Ok we’re getting up in age but not spirit!!!

I wonder if a damper is in the works for this…
Yes, but it's a hybrid damper, and much more complicated to install. Also, the wiring harness may only be in place on higher trim levels. Also, the controller contains one of the chips that are in currently in short supply so some Mavericks may be shipped to dealers without it.

I guess my Ranger qualifies as a truck since it has a dent on the roof. I’m calling it a truck anyway. It’s a pickup truck.

Oh no doubt. Don't get me wrong, I like the Maverick a lot, I think its very cool. Just wouldn't work for me. I tow/haul and do some off-roading which this thing wouldn't be able to do. I want to convince my wife to trade in her SUV for this thing though, I think it would be way more comfortable for on road long distance trips than my Ranger. Although her Tucson has been a solid SUV, I don't like it at all.

the Ranger fits the real truck category?
The Ranger is a body on frame design like most other trucks. The Maverick is a unibody with IRS like a Honda Ridgeline much more like a car chassis.
