Who looks at the shifter when shifting gears?

Like seriously?

Count the clicks.

I shift an automatic transmission from park to drive over 200 times a night when I have to work. In the dark, without looking at the indicator.

If you must have an indication it's on the dash.
Honestly, I have never even paid attention if it was lighted or not. Like you don't need it and don't even pay attention to it......

Not being sure, I just went out and checked my shifter. (STX SuperCab)
The panel lights up, but only when the lights are on.
It is just one light and does not specify which gear except you can see which letter the shifter is next too.
:like:What a relief!
 I guess I would have liked my truck even more if I had noticed that light in the console years ago! :giggle:

Fixed it. Was easier than I thought. I figured a few of you would like it because
A: It’s a light
B: There’s “stickers”
C: it’s blue

This way, only the gear I’m in lights up. Tested and works.

See photos for day & night mode.
I’ve got a Tremor, so I may connect this to one of my Aux switches. Of course, that means running a wire from the engine compartment back in through the firewall. You non-tremor owners are on your own!

It should've been like that from the factory. Bunch of cheapskate bean counters!

Hey fellow new ranger owners. Just bought new 2021 Lariat. Are the number and letter indicators on the gear shift supposed to have a light? It seems like they should when the lights are on. Hard to shift in the dark garage unless I look at the instrument panel. Maybe the light is broken? thanks in advance!

If that's a lariat you pulled a fast one on all the above posted.
Never seen a center stack like that in any lariat. Those heated seat controls look ghostly :lipssealed:

I think they discontinued it sometime in 2020? My 2019 has illuminated gear indicator.

Congratulations on your new truck! No, the letters do not light up and, yeah, when it's dark in the garage, you have to look at the instrument panel. That said, with time, you get used to the feel of it and don't need to look anywhere any more. Happy trails!
