To borrow/steal a thread title from someone else.....

I went out hiking today and it didn't start well - only about 3 miles from the house I was driving down the road and a deer (literally) jumped in front of my truck. I slammed on the brakes but there really was nothing I could do - I hit him square on - killed him - the amazing thing is other than it breaking my front license plate bracket, my truck doesn't seem to have suffered any other damage. He wasn't a very large deer so that also helped.

I wonder if my front hitch mount might have helped out a bit?

I don't what it is about deer and squirrels that they run out right in front of moving vehicles. Glad your truck didn't suffer major damage.

Geez did you check around to see if the deer left a note??
(sorry you had a deer “goodbye cruel world” by way of 5G Ranger.)
Do you have deer meet in the freezer now?

I've run over squirrels because they ran right under my tire - but this is the first time I've actually hit a deer - I swear he waited until right before I was by him (I had already been applying the brakes once I saw him) before he jumped in front of me.

I'm honestly shocked there was not more damage - I was expecting to see a caved in front end. Maybe he went under quick enough - I'm not asking too many questions, just happy there wasn't more damage.

The bad thing is I couldn't find my front license plate - so I'm technically illegal in OR now - but I really don't care. If I get stopped for it, I'll relay the story.

No, the deer is still on the side of the road - I'm not much of a deer meat eater..... Someone else stopped and I thought they might pick it up but when I came back this afternoon it was still there.

We drove up to Mt St Helens on Tuesday and someone left a deer in the road - it got run over I don't know how many times - it was pretty gross. I dragged this one off into the ditch at least after I knew it was dead so it wouldn't keep getting run over.

I was stopped in the road in my '12 Focus waiting for a buck to get out of the way, then he turned toward me and head butted my car! WTF? Did only minor damage.

Here is a picture of the damage - I think the passenger side end of the bumper might be down just a little bit (1/4" or less), but you have to look closely to see it - I'm not worried about it:

I think I got off extremely easy... I may go back and look for my license plate again - if I find it I'll buy a new bracket.

The deer are almost domesticated in my neighborhood. Several large herds live here. I have up to 20 in the backyard on any given day. They be grazing mid day. The older one have smartened up and never jump in the road when driving by, but they will use the road the same way cars do. And we give them the right of way. And it is not a small neighborhood.... 300+ homes, but 1.5 acres or larger lots.

Triplets! Tried feeding them to keep them out of our flowers... They weren't having it.

There is no hope in chasing them away.... They return in minutes to continue their meal.

A newborn in our front yard. This little fellow wasn't 10' of the paved road. We kept an eye on him until dusk when mom returned and moved him to the back yard.

Mine was less than two weeks old and I hit, of all things, a turkey. Put a crease in the leading edge of the hood. Paintless dent guy fixed it, no problem. Funny thing was that I’d ordered a bug deflector but it hadn’t arrived yet and if I had it the turkey wouldn’t have hurt the truck.
