Did not know where to put this question. So i figured off road was a good place considering the grades and angles the Ranger goes through while off road.

At what angle or grade do we have to worry about before the engine begins to starve for oil, or the pump can no longer pick up oil, or the tranny for that matter as well.
I am curious, as i use the remote start on my app a lot. The angles on the pick is my Ranger sitting in my driveway.
Just a subject i hardly see talked about. I see this problem with fuel tanks. But oil and transmission? Any insight would be great.
Thanks

The oil pickup is typically in the deepest part of the sump. You'd likely have to the truck nearly upside down or extremely low on oil before you'd have to start worrying about oil starvation. You don't hear the subject talked about because it's not an issue. You are not going to oil starve your engine in your driveway.

The 3.6 JKs had issues with consuming oil at steep angles.

I haven't heard anything about the Ranger 2.3 having issues.

I wish I could remember for sure but I recall testing to 30° angle which is a 60% grade.

best,
Phil

You will be more scared of holding on to the steering wheel at a large angle before it is an oil starving issue.

Or never mind what angle, but if you ever see the oil idiot light illuminate turn off the engine ASAP regardless of what angle your at.

not that oil starve is impossible but, it would not be a concern unless you had one very unique driveway. A few houses in my area have drive ways that are so steep you have to lean forward a tiny bit to walk up comfortably, if its wet or icy dont even bother. I have always wondered if they hate it every time they get in the car or out.

Just one of those curiosities i had. When offroad many times you are at an angle for just a small amount of time usually. But just sitting there for ten minutes or so? I have always heard rock climb with a full tank, true we dont run the oil empty, but it goes to the side submerging the crank and so on but where is the pick up and so forth.
I see the great Phil answered the question as well.
So its official now.
Ill start cooling it off on the driveway
