There is a lot of talk on here about oil drain valves. I want to talk about oil drain hoses. Most people buy these for on boats because they cannot reach under and drain oil into a pan on a lot of boats. Replacing your drain plug with a permanent hose with a cap on the end that you can route to the side of your truck and uncap to drain oil. Wouldn’t it make oil draining easy? People safely relocate their filters with hoses air the time, why not the drain plug? Any thoughts?

One more point of failure for no reason.

I see a big reason. it Is all about convenience and time. I like to change my own out but it is getting more of a PITA to climb under the truck to get to the drain valve. What kind of failure do you see here?

The hose but go for it if you want. It’s not that tough to begin with.

If the hose gets cut/nicked, you've got a problem.
If the hose clamp at the pan or the 'cap' leaks, you've got a problem.
If something ensnares the hose and pulls it off... you've got a major problem.

I think that this is a better option, and the route I will be going:
https://www.amazon.com/Fumoto-F107SX-M12-1-75-Drain-Valve/dp/B01HP5V10A

You can then attach a drain hose and route accordingly if desired. (it does still mean you have to crawl under to actuate the valve at the pan)

The Fumoto and the Valvomax are both very popular.

I have the Valvomax but have yet to install it as all my oil changes so far have been done by the dealer.

THIS is the one I have. It includes the hose so should be nice and tidy when doing the oil change.

I'll find out in 1000 miles as that's when I'll do my first oil change myself.

I wouldn't do that but I installed a Futomo valve with a hose attached to drain around the skid plate...

One thing that hasn't been mentioned. Having to get under the truck to activate the valve gives you the opertunity to inspect the underside for other leaks and issues every 5000 miles or so.

I have the Valvomax valve and love it. Put it on at my first oil change. What a mess that one was, pulling the factory drain plug.

Ditto! I have the valvomax on all my cars. Low profile, no external valve that can be bumped. It is designed very well. Just don't lose the drain cap!

Knowing my long lasting relationship with Murphy, if I installed a drain valve or tube on my truck some how a rock would find its way up and tag the valve. Thus draining the crankcase of oil as I drove down the freeway completely unaware until the dash lit up like a Christmas tree just before the engine decided to show me its rather expert impression of a boat anchor... ?

I use the Fumoto with the angled hose attachment to do my oil. Much easier than removing the skid plate or letting oil drain everywhere each time

I have not been under my truck yet to see the design (have only had it 2 months)...is the drain plug accessible without removing any of the plates? Could you post a link to which Fumoto valve set up you purchased? Thanks!
