So I accidentally double gasketed the oil filter while changing the oil on Shelly today, I got it shut off in time so no engine damage, what's the best way to clean all the excess oil that coated the bottom of the engine? I wiped it down as best I could but I'm sure there's still a bunch I couldn't get to. Just let it burn off?
My mechanic will steam clean an engine compartment for a reasonable fee (sometimes free if I ask nicely).

I’d be careful with the brake cleaner. I’ve seen it turn some plastics nasty.

It's when you don't notice this and the gasket is still stuck to the truck. You put a new filter on and gasket + gasket surprisingly = not a gasket.

Crow if you throw some (a bottle) of dawn for dishes on your driveway and hit it with a brush for a minute or two before you power wash you will not even know it happened.
Actually, you will know... It'll be the clean spot in the driveway?

The threaded bit that the physical oil filter screws on too. My googlefu says it's not a big deal.
This is the best picture of it I can find

Is this the first oil change? They impact the filter on really tight from the factory so that might of caused it. Unless you are wrenching it on yourself. Should only be hand tight. Very hand tight but hand tight.

Looks like I'll be pressure washing the driveway again...

Mix some Dawn (Blue) and a little water and let that sit on the stain for an hour before pressure washing :)

Run it through a drive-thru car wash with a chassis spray.

Yes lucky - bad choice of words I know but at least it was clean oil.
You should try getting used diesel oil off the concrete.
I usually put down a couple of opened out cardboard boxes under and around the drain pan, but somehow still manage to make a mess. That stuff is like blood, a little goes a long way.

I had that piece come off of one of the cars. Can't remeber which one but cleaned it up, put a little blue thread locker on it and never had another issue.

The Ranger has a one-piece unit for the Oil Filter Adaptor assembly:

However, if the pic matches you should be able to find a BIG hex key (Size?) and thread the boss back in and secure with Loctite.

Various Part Numbers come up, but this one appears to be the correct part number.

KB3Z-6881-A - About $130.00 Price wise from the sources I found.

No documentation found on install of the threaded boss, only the whole unit itself.
As I was curious if the boss had a stop or do you just split the difference on the length of exposed thread for the filter.

As far as size goes, my next oil change, this summer I can check if I can get one. As I MAY have a big Allen Key to fit it.

Never had that happen to me on a vehicle. Gotta say, if it did so I think I'd be a bit freaked out. Don't like any sort of mechanical boo boo's when I dealing with oil changes. And that piece coming off with the filter would definitely cause me some stress. Must add, the thought of adding loctite to it makes me nervous just thinking about it. I'd be paranoid about getting loctite into the oil system.

Ok, got another oil change coming up soon... and now I'm stressing. Thanks guys. Not.

Heading out into the garage to caress the blue baby while whispering sweet nothings....

When I threaded it back in it felt like it had a stop but I also was in a bad mood after fighting the old filter and didn't want to make it worse

Happened once to a bud of mine when we were in high school, this was a loooong time ago, he warned me what will happen.
Ever since I always check my old filters to make sure the gasket came off. Only twice in the 40+ years since have I had a filter stick on the engine but it does happen.

I wipe off the oil filter base with a paper towel on each oil/filter change.
I have changed every oil and filter in all my vehicles since 1965.
This stupid FORD oil filter base location sucks. I shine a light on it to make sure all is good.
I pre-fill my all oil filters also, even the stupid Nissan 1985 truck that was 45 degree from
vertical upside down. My Honda VTX 1300 has horizontal filter. It gets filled to the top.
At least there is room to quickly move it to position and screw it in.
