I myself can see me running this without much concern. With my current set up I have yet to hit anything on the trail that would cause me to hit the back plates or anything else for that manner. Before the lift I didnt even have an issue in the rear by the tank. I'm I going to try and hit a jump as fast as i can to get awesome air time? Nope because the truck isnt build for the Baja. There are still things i need to do to.my truck like add a locker to the rear. Will this fuel tank be for everyone? Probably not as there has been enough people to give fair reason and that is ok. Will it be a worth your wild upgrade? Most likely it will be!! As mentioned before it will take some time to get this ready for the market but once it is important sure enough people on here will be happy with it!!

Agreed and excited to hear more of the progress.

that's cool, but from a business standpoint, I have a feeling a lot of people aren't going to feel the same way for a 4x4 application.

I'm trying to imagine what would have happened to steel tank sitting below the frame rail on this day....

I don't usually 'try' to find trails like this, but if connecting A-B without having to backtrack 4 hours means getting over this obstacle, I'm definitely going for it. And having a gas tank as my first point of contact is the last thing I want. extra capacity doesn't mean much if it's leaking all over the ground.

If leaking is your first concern I'd assume you haven't seen a car fire with fatalities.

It's not like your water bottle leaking, it's the flaming death that's the largest concern. (This is also the big difference between gasoline and diesel--with one of those the biggest problem is the long walk home.)

I can't argue your logic here but of you are going to do alot off offroad where obstacles like such are possible I woyld suggest a bogger lift and tires. Also I would suggest in investing in trail books to help prevent that from happening. Do that and you have the cance of not having to worry about clearance as much.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm happy with the capabilities of my truck as is. Bigger lift/tires means worse on-road manners, worse mpg, and decreased range, which I don't want.
The capabilities I have now, plus more fuel range without having to carry external jerry cans is the goal.
Also, regardless of how built my truck is, I'm going to find ways to push its limits. I'm always going to try and find new places to go and new ways to get there. I'm not content with just running the same trails the guy in the book did (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Worrying about smashing my gas tank is not a concern I want to add when I'm out on the trail in the middle of nowhere.

If this tank works for you then that is awesome, I'm just trying to explain my concerns to the company so that the company can take that into account, and hopefully (selfishly) make adjustments that fit my needs.
Also they should know that I am not a huge portion of their market, and probably neither are you, but usually people working in product development like (or should like) lots of information to determine what changes should or shouldn't be made, and decide is possible and worthwhile.

Well said. The bigger the lift... the bigger the obstacles you'll want to crawl over. It's all relative.

For a 4x4 truck that has off road capabilities, an aftermarket gas tank that hangs under the frame would motivate most buyers to look for a different tank that doesn't. It's as simple as that.

G'Day Everyone,
I have just stumbled on this forum. First post.

The Ranger is one of the most popular vehicles here in Australia along with the Toyota Hilux. While we don't yet have the 2.3L EcoBoost engine in the Ranger (yet?), there are a good number of long range fuel tank manufacturers.

The Long Range Automotive brand is well known here and produces high quality products. I have had the LRA tanks fitted to a Hilux ute and a Land Rover Defender. They are strong and well engineered.

Some other manufacturers here produce fuel tanks which sit flush with the chassis rails, although they are for the diesel variants. The ARB poly tanks are well made and light so it is a pity they won't produce them for the US market if that is the case. No dual tanks options are made to my knowledge. Some do run an additional poly tanks in the tray but that solution is not such a good solution and more for commercial work and not for touring.

I am not aware of any aftermarket tanks here which have bash plates as standard. Tanks do get knocked around but as we tend to like diesels here, it is not so much of an issue. There are many aftermarket supplier here for extra under-body protection but that generally ends at the transfer case.

We are basically limited to 2" lift after which things get messy and expensive to keep the vehicle road legal. I have not fitted a long range tank to my vehicle yet for the reasons mentioned by others such as clearance and protection issues. While there are vehicles with bigger lifts, they are not particularly legal here.

I just remembered I was also interested in doing a hybrid drive conversion, which could eliminate the need for a larger tank. Thinking value/mile though, a bigger tank is probably the more cost effective and less complicated modification.
"Probably"?? Lol!

So as I am sure most people here including myself would like the option of a bigger fuel tank for offroad adventures or perhaps you dont want to stop as much on the road. Currently I am in the works with a company from Australia to get such to happen. Prices on the fuel tanks would be unknown at this time but if we can get enough support I'm sure we can get a nice group buy too happen. I want your input on this guys!! Lets make this a possible thing!!
