Has anyone squeezed in a bigger tire on a stock wheel without removing/replacing the crash bars? the stock Tremor size is the 265-70-17

I know lots of bigger tires have gone on lifted rangers, I'm hoping something, anything bigger will fit, I don't think a 275-70-17 will fit but it may, anybody tried?

I will probably have to do something with the crash bars if I want a bigger tire, but I figured I would ask, that's great part about this forum, it has a lot of members, so there is a good chance somebody somewhere has tried what your thinking about trying!

I’ve been looking for a 275/70-17r I have a stock suspension tremor.. which tires are you looking at in this size.? My understanding is some tires are built differently so the fit may very from brand to brand.. I’d assume some rubbing would happen without modification during “articulation” (I think that’s what it’s called) but that’s just guesswork on my part

I would like the Falken Wildpeaks AT3 or AT4, for starters, the AT3's are discontinued, but are still available in the 275 size, the 265's were available 3 days ago on Tire rack, but they are all gone now.
Maybe the Toyo AT3 Open country, and maybe the Nitto Ridge grapplers, not BFG tko, they so suck in the wet.
If you find something that fits the truck, I'm open to most any brand, but I am staying with the C rating if I can, I don't want the extra weight, and I don't need the extra rating.

If things go well this weekend I might have a real world answer for you next week…for the nitto RG’s (I was looking at them and have a opportunity to get some in 275/70-17) but been hesitant since I read that they tend to wear a bit faster than others. Idk if they’re C rated ones or E… (which I think is the sidewall ply’s or something c=6 e=10) anyway I hope to have them on and bring back some positive information. Pretty sure the other guys will weigh in once they see your thread too.

That is the size I hope to fit, I think I will probably have to do something with the crash bars though.

This is good, can't wait to see your results, Thanks!!

Hey Mike,

The +55mm factory wheel offset leaves the 275s a bit too close to the knuckle and some folks have added a 1/4” or 1/2” wheel spacer to push the wheel and tire out, away from the knuckle. But you can’t go too big here because you‘ll push the tires into the crash bars at full lock.

Others didn’t want to use spacers and went with lower offset rims but didn’t go too low - staying at or above +25mm seems to keep people out of trouble - away from the knuckle and out of the crash bars. Those who went with +30mm or +35mm were also in the safe zone.

Most of these folks had a 2-1/2” RC Level Kit or coil over levelling shocks set at 2” or more on their non-Tremor Rangers. There is some debate on here about whether or not the Fox setup on Tremors is 2” but a Tremor owner might be along and be able to speak to it. If it truly is a 2” level, it would fit the scenario described.

Best of luck figuring this out.

So I’ll need atleast 1/4” wheel spacers for thems to fit and safely clear the knuckle… nuts.. you know your stuff too, so I’m gonna have to source some wheel spacers.. I was hopeful I wouldn’t need spacers or the high clearance crash/intrusion bars with the 275’s like fitz I think was hopeful for as well… welp my plan just got a tad more expensive ? bye bye profit from the tile job I just finished. ?… oh well that’s why I did the side job anyway.. sorry fitzmotor looks like bare minimum is going to be 1/4” spacers (I’m gonna go 1” or 1-1/4” spacers.) and high clearance bars.. to fit anything more aggressive than the 265/70-17R…last thing I wanna do is rip up the inside side of the tire on the knuckles it a attempt to save a few bucks..

That's about what I figured, I may do a 1/4 spacer if it was hub centric, I don't really want to get wheels, so I may end up with the stock size tires, which was okay new, but now that they are worn out they look tiny.

Thanks for the info?

UPDATE: @Fitzmotor and @OGMix376 - Definitely wait to hear from others - I just remembered reading the Tremor wheels have a +42mm offset.

I think you should both wait to hear from someone with real world Tremor experience on this before making your final decision. I wouldn’t want you to spend money needlessly or settle on something less without getting what you really wanted, because I might not have been 100% certain of something.

1” or 1-1/4” spacers might push your wheels too close to the crash bars when they are turned. It’s a thing that doesn’t make sense when you hear it but it happens. The high clearance crash bars would come in handy.

It’s surprising what a difference a small amount of tread wear makes to the appearance of the truck.

From others I've talked to on the tremor Facebook group. A bigger tire will not fit unless you change the offset, level the tremor with a puck, remove or replace the crashbar. One to all three of those to make up to a 285-70-17 fit with no rubbing.

I ended up with +1 offset wheels, removing the crash bars, and leveling my tremor to fit 285/70. I did that offset for wider stance.

Was it a 1” puck-style level you used? That seems to be what some Tremor owners are doing if they stay with the stock coil overs.

I used a 2 inch puck level from ford ranger lifts. Use a 1 inch if you still want some rake, 2 will make it damn near level, and when I am fully loaded with camping gear and pulling the trailer I squat a bit. I should have went with 1 inch. I'd switch to 1 inch if I wasn't already budgeting for adjustable 2.5 fox or icon for when the factory ones go.

The Tremor wheels are +42 offset, unlike the regular sport wheels which are offset +55. This gives Tremor wheels about a 1/2 inch further offset without needing a spacer.

Thanks Ron - I remembered that this morning and updated another post to include that nugget before people took my misinformation campaign as informed advice. ?‍♂

Mike, in my case, there was no getting around removing all the crash bars if I wanted full lock turn with 285/70-17...that was before front level...
