The factory filter on my MY19 Ranger was not marked as FL-910S. But could not tell you if it was different. I use a three jaw expandle jaw filter wrench with a long extention, that I bought at Harbor Freight. Works great going in through the wheel well. Doesn’t care diameter or flutes.
I have had five Ford's that all specified the FL-910S filter. None of the factory filters were marked FL-910S, they all had a much longer Ford part number. Also, the Motorcraft FL-910S is made by Purolator. They have a distinctive oval hole in the end plate. The factory filters had round holes. If I were to guess I would say the factory filter was made by Champion Labs.

A tidbit of history. The FL-910S filter is not even a Ford design. It was first spec'd in 1982 on the then new 2.2 Mopar 4cyl.

Really interesting about this whole filter issue.

I've read that the FL-400S will fit and it's a bit longer although I've not tried it myself. I don't know that an extra couple ounces of oil and an inch of filter media would matter but it might make it easier to reach.

I miss the old Motorcraft FL-1A. Nice beefy filter. Probably held a quart of oil by itself. Sigh...

It definitely does fit. I used the FL-400S on my 2.3 Ecoboost Mustangs.

Another interesting tidbit. The 2.4 4cyl in the PT Cruiser spec'd the FL-910S when naturally aspirated and the FL-400S when turbo charged.

Thanks. Have you used it on the Ranger and do you think it's easier to reach?

FWIW, I was on the Sport Trac boards for years (still am but not as active) and I was the one who discovered that a Mustang 3.8 V6 radiator cap fit a Gen 2 Sport Trac but it was 16 lb versus 20 lb on the Trac OE unit which made it a lot less likely that you'd get a cracked radiator or thermostat housing. My son had a V6 Mustang at the time.

I like the Fumoto drain valve with a hose on it. I has a clip that locks it so it can't be pushed open my an object, it has to be pushed up then over an the clip prevents it from getting pushed up. Removing the skid plate was a minor hassle the valve gets rid of. If you hit the valve with a skid plate on you got problems anyway.

Also do your self a favor and replace the screw type body pins that hold on the rubber wheel liner that covers the filter with some push type ones. The screw ones never work as intended and are a pain to remove where the push ones will just pull right out. Get one of the factory ones out and take it to the auto parts store/ hardware store for sizing and get a half dozen of the others. This style.

I have not and likely won't. I have a 1" thick sandwich adapter between the filter and the block so I would have a place for the sensor for my auxiliary oil pressure gauge. The longer filter too would put the end out at the frame.

I don't see how a longer filter would make reaching the filter any easier. It is very easy to get at to remove/install with an oil filter socket and long extension.

Fl-1a, 910 and 400 all have same thread and gasket size.

Not to sure why people insist on not using the factory filter. That little bit of extra filter wont make a difference

Not agreeing or disagreeing... Just curious. What makes you say that? Is there something to the internals that we aren't considering?
