Initial Oil Filter size???

Only at 1800 miles and getting things together so when the time comes -
I have what I need in the garage for the first oil change.

From what I seen on YouTube and reading forums it appears that the
...initial oil filter is a different size?...
Is this correct?

If so, what size is the filter that comes on the late model Ranger new?

I’ve never heard of this. Motorcraft FL-910S is the OEM filter

Thanks for clarification. It may be what I saw was someone going to use OEM and had to get off a lube center off brand filter.
I have a 76mm 14 flute so I should be OK.

The factory filter on my MY19 Ranger was not marked as FL-910S. But could not tell you if it was different. I use a three jaw expandle jaw filter wrench with a long extention, that I bought at Harbor Freight. Works great going in through the wheel well. Doesn’t care diameter or flutes.

It may be just a factory inventory thing vs commersial marking rather than a physical difference.

Can't say exactly what the diamiter of the Factory Oil Filter is but if anything just stick with the Factory Oil Filter vs the Aftermarket. Motocraft Filters are definitely up there in Quality over certain brands that we will not name

I have a new Motorcraft Oil Filter and Motorcraft Full synthetic ready to go. I may even do the oil change early since the break-in (first 500 miles) is certainly over at this point.
Plenty of highway and offroad trips in the mountains. That's what I got the truck for and to work on the cabins.
Very happy owner.

The factory oil filter was a B to get off. I had the cap style filter wrench an it took so much pressure to loosen it slipped. It wasn't a perfect fit but pretty snug. I got the 3 jaw style from harbor freight an it did the job. They have the same one for about the same price at walmart. The cap style works on the ones I put on just not the factory one.

That might be possible but only by a little bit. The 910S is very very close that you wont notice it

Regardless, I'm tackling this 1st oil change as a challenge and make sure I have ample time to complete. I've been here before with one of my Jeeps so it is just a matter of persistence?

One other suggestion, get yourself a drain valve. I'm a fan of the Valvomax. Others like the Fumato. Either way it will make draining the oil the second time much less messy. The first time is always fun.

Yeah.... Never saw the point of the drain valve.... For starters it can be knocked open if hit by foreign objects on the trail..... Second it drains slowly compared to just pulling the drain plug..... And I have never had it messy just fro pulling the drain plug.... Just the oil filter at best.
