I love my Ranger, but I am trading it in.

The Wilderness Approach angle is: 23.5 degrees (my Ranger 28.7°) Departure angle: is 25.4 degrees (my Ranger is 25.4°). The Wilderness approach angles are better than the regular Forester and has a much shorter nose than the Outback.

The advantages of the Outback’s ground clearance is largely minimized by its long nose and poor approach angle, at least with respect to “off roading”. But, it should help with clearing snow and the occasional dead possum. ?

If I was going to one all-purpose vehicle, I would seriously consider a Honda Ridgeline or a Maverick. You get the car-like ride, but retain the utility of a truck bed.
The Wildness is already ordered and on its way. This is a long video, but if you skip to the log climbing test, you can see how the Subaru symmetrical AWD system is so much superior than most other vehicles.

in showing this, I am not comparing the Wilderness to the Ranger, I loved my Ranger, but compared to other small SUV’s it is very capable.

It's not even my vehicle but the thought of getting rid of a Ranger and getting a Suby :surprised: is making me feel a bit light headed......

Be that as it may, best of luck OP. Hope the new ride is everything you want it to be. Happy Trails in it!

That’s because it’s usually the slowest thing holding up a long line of cars in Colorado.
True that...I used to think Subarus must not have any power...

I love my 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. It has been trouble free, and has hauled a lot of material for me. We decided to become a one vehicle family and go on some longer road vacations and the truck was not the right vehicle for that and was not my wife’s first choice for a sole vehicle. We have less than 50,000 kms (31,000 miles) on the truck

I have finished all my planned projects around our rural home and 98% of the time, at least one vehicle is parked at our home. Going to one vehicle made sense at this stage in our lives.

I loved my Ranger and I will miss it. We are going to get a Subaru Forester Wilderness. It is a very practicable, capable vehicle and it should be able to handle anything that we throw at it. It actually has more ground clearance than the Ranger and is more capable in the snow. It can tow 3000 lbs, so it can tow my boat and utility trailer. Barring anything weird happening when we go to the dealer to trade the Ranger in and picking up the new vehicle, this should all go down in about three weeks time.

This is what the Wilderness should look like this Fall in front of my place.

Subaru engines are problematic. They leak, they blow head gaskets. My brother (slow learner) has had several and admits now that the ownership experience has been negative. I’d recommend any all-wheel drive Toyota.

Consumer Reports ranks them #1 in their category, and a lot of the old oil leak, head gasket problems are long gone.

I did not post to promote or defend the Subaru, just more to say that I am trading in my Ranger that I still love and was good to me, problem free. Priorities change and it is not the right vehicle for me at this time.

I can like other trucks, my one buddy has a Ram 1500 which is great truck and another has a Toyota truck and it is also a good truck. I can like other cars and Toyota has made a reliable brand of vehicles for years. The Rav 4 is a great vehicle. I just find the Subaru Forester more capable and a better fit for me.

Our Subaru Forester lowered our insurance rates considerably. Apparently the better visibility, safety features, and low accident numbers give them the best rates available. The full time 4wd is super nice. It is much better in the snow then my ranger. The Ranger gets weird on tight turns and can't be left engaged in mixed conditions. I bought the extended warranty on both because they all can have very expensive issues with all the technology.

I will be getting the extended warranty as well. As much as they can be very reliable, when they are not,it can get pricey as you say.

I will be talking to my insurance company in a couple weeks and it will be interesting to see if my rates change. We live in an area with fairly low insurance rates compared to the urban areas.

My wife has an Outback, we are very happy with it. Several free services included with it and every time has been a pleasure. Ford could learn something from them.

Service is on the dealer, not the manufacturer.

Ok, Ford Dealerships could learn from Subarus Dealerships, regarding customer satisfaction in my area anyway.

You are obvs more than welcome to like any vehicle in the world. My bro likes Subarus, I’ve owned Subarus. I learned my lesson. It’s all good. Consumer reports and JD Power like Kias and Hyundais too but neither tests them out into higher mileage that real people put on their cars. It’s when the miles acquire that those vehicle‘s engines like to self destruct. I wish you much happiness with your new car.

Girlfriend's “friends” ? have 2. And they are pretty popular here in this liberal enclave she lives in.
I’ve driven the “friends” cars, a few times and they seem like decent vehicles.

Best of luck OP
