Hub centric rings… Yay or nay?

You should always torque the wheels off the ground. If you don't have someone to hold the brake while you torque, lower it just enough for the ground to keep the tire/wheel from spinning. This is the correct procedure.
That’s true, same as all other suspension components, but I get lazy and tighten all with impact super close then once lowered usually takes about a 1/4 turn with torque wrench. I do not worry about the lug nuts as I do with the other suspension fasteners.

I used to own a shop that sold tires and wheels, among many other truck and offroad products. We had many a customer come in after buying aftermarket wheels complaining of vibration. Very few of them knew the center bore dimension of the wheels they'd purchased, so we usually measured the center bore of the wheel and looked up the hub diameter for their vehicle.

Filling the gap between those two measurement prevents the wheel from moving around the hub if, as others have noted, the wheel is not correctly remounted. How often have you seen anyone in a tire or repair shop do anything more than hit the lugs with an air gun? I know I've never seen anyone break out a torque wrench.

Hub centric rings are cheap insurance and it's a good idea to keep some extras on hand since tire shops tend to lose them.

My local Discount Tire uses a torque wrench, as does my local Brakes Plus.

If the installer is doing their job correctly, hub centric rings are not needed. If they are ugga-duggaing the lug nuts and not feathering them in to center the wheel, you can get vibrations.

I've had many wheels and never used hub centric rings. I also know how to install the wheel so the lugs center the wheel. They're cheap, usually, so... six in one hand, half dozen in the other.
Agree but I’ve read that hub-centric rings aren’t just for centering the wheel to reduce vibration. They’re supposed to take stress off the lug nuts. When I was researching wheels, I read an article about guys not running adapter rings and snapping lugs because of the added stress.
Whether or not they really help, I don’t know… I didn’t go that far down the rabbit hole lol. When I bought wheels for the wife’s truck, I installed hub-centric adapters just for peace of mind. They’re cheap enough and easy to find, figured it couldn’t hurt.

In over 5 years of installing wheels, I never had a lug snap from missing hub-centric rings.

Snapping studs because of no adapter ring?! Woweee...
I once had a truck that had 205lb wheel and tire combo, per tire. This is why I am pro hub centric. But for regular people probably not as extreme. Your friction is probably enough. Lol

Just a follow up! The hub rings arrived. Came from Gorilla Automotive! 108-93.1 size, Fyi! Got them installed over the weekend. Fit like a glove. Definately noticed a change in vibration around 75-80mph. Less movement! Worth the $$. 🤙🇺🇸

I personally won't as I purchased the roush r wheels that have the correct center diameter. But am sure many others will.
