Well I’m thinking maybe get some coated braided steel cable and run it along the outside of the hose. Do loop crimps around the hose mount points. So if the hose lets go then hopefully it won’t wrap around the clutch. Just a thought.
That won’t help much, as the rotation force is clockwise (towards the support where the hose breaks)
If any mod that could be done would be to run a solid tube in the rubber tubes place.
But I cannot find a detailed answer as to why it is designed the way it is.
I know that I can see some flexibility in the hose as the clutch engages and disengages, so the design works as intended, but wonder if it was modded to be rigid would it cause issues with the clutch.
More importantly why - when the clutch fails , is it intentionally designed to rip the hose and harness with it?
Or is this an oversight by the engineers?
I am surprised that there had not been anything from Ford in a SSM or TSB on this issue, it appears to be common and this forum only accounts for a small percentage of owners.

Even if it was a solid mount, if the fan clutch fails in a certain way locking itself together it will not matter what you have to try and keep the harness in place.

I agree, something is going to break and it will not be pretty. A solid mount between the clutch and the non-rotating module would probably increase the load/wear of that interface and lead to more failures.

Another thought I had, you could always put another connector right at the arrow and break the locking tab off of it. That way if it ever fails it will just yank the connector apart instead of mangling the wires.

I wonder if putting in an efan, then using a port to connect(I'm sure I saw a couple plugs in the coolant system) the thermostat for a direct in coolant feed would work. Did it on my dodge dakota using the bleeder plug spot.

That hose is not something to worry about. As mentioned above it is meant to help keep the wiring for the fan clutch in place since the fan clutch is electronic controlled. If you become one of the unlucky ones the fan clutch will lock up in a way that it will rip the hose and harness no matter what. Is there a fix? Not really. That design does work as intended until something bad happens. Part of why I like the old school fan clutch design over the electronic controlled design
I replaced my hose with a thick oil line hose I had laying around. It's gonna take some time for that thing to wear out.

Did the hose fail without the fan locking up?

On that idea, I'm going to see what they do with the 2.3L in the next Gen Ranger, I hear they are going to an electric fan. I would not be surprised by someone find a clean way of fitting that to the current gen.

Knowing Ford, it will go one of two ways. Either a 'buy these couple of parts and bolt right in', or 'there is nothing you can do short of rebuilding the truck from the tire tread to the roof to make it work' with nothing in between.

Yeah, I was looking over everything after an oil change when I spotted the hose had torn from the engine side. Had just the cables and a few zip ties holding it in place for a week till I spotted that hose in my garage.

I noticed this hose is separated from one end. I do not know what this is for, and the dealership just did an “inspection” during a service and didn’t say a word. Any idea on what it’s purpose is and/or how severe it being severed is? Thanks.
