Wow, hope everybody is alright (and that the truck can be made alright again at a reasonable price). Just yesterday afternoon, driving back to northern Delaware after a few days down in Maryland, we saw a big buck cut straight across Delaware Route 1, dancing around about ten vehicles, including our own Ranger, all going (at least) 65 MPH, before making the far side and heading into the woods untouched. Why does a grown deer have to cross the highway at three o'clock in the afternoon? One of these days, buddy, bam!

I guess they take more chances during the rut. Might have sniffed a hot doe on the other side.

I have had a few close calls this year. It's central Va. It's normal. But the closest call I had was just inches (it seemed) when one ran across the road in front of me, with a freshly harvested buck on the back! Didn't even have time to hit the brakes, just luckily missed it.
Don't you guys know about deer whistles?

obviously you have never done any research on this snake oil.
"Unfortunately, there is no hard evidence that deer whistles work – that deer can actually hear the whistles or, if they do, that they're turned away from the road," says Russ Rader, spokesman for the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Sad news for sure !
I only hit an empty 5gal paint bucket bounced directly in front of me on my way home from the Ford Dealer.
Only suffered some latex spatter underneath and inner tyre sidewall.
Deer are year round serious problem where I live.
Its a predator free island and unhealthy overpopulation. I have close call every week.
The Deputy tells me about 250 are hit annually. Thats by about 4800 full time residents. Obviously that 250 doesn't include those quietly taken home.
The only benefit is typically slow speeds on our winding roads and the inbred deer are fairly small.
