Bump! I've installed a few of these HC rear bumpers on Tacoma's in the past. They're excellent. Looking at our ranger, the bedside chop is definitely doable.

I may chop mine, and build up a tube wrap around...

Well I did the trail installed clearance mod to that section of the truck this weekend on Pearl Pass. Didn’t even hear it or realize I smashed it until the next day. The stupid dual exhaust tips is the reason I’m sure. So now I’m looking for a bumper with some bars to slide on and single tip exhaust. That trail had some spicy sections though! A guy in a wrangler sport was stuck in that rocky section and smashed up his side steps. Had to do some trail building to get him out.

My suggestion cor that is to get rid of the tipps and bring the exhaust closer to the axle. You get more clearance there and you have less risk of the exhaust damaging the bed like that again.

Yeah I’m trying to decide on new exhaust all together now and probably the ARB number with the tubes to keep it from happening again. Probably going to have a body shop straighten the dent out too.

If it were me I would just cut the exhaust off a certain amount especially if you already like the sound of that kit gave me. The reason I say that is a beats having to pay quite a few hundred dollars for another exhaust kit. I know it's a cheap way of doing something but that's what I would do if it were me. I would also try and find the cleanest spot and cleanest way to do it.

Firstly, that trail looks fun. Secondly, sorry to hear about the ding. No matter how much TLC we put into our rigs, no matter if we build them for these specific purposes, no matter if we know there's always the possibility for trail damage, when it happens, and we look at the ding every day, it tends to feel like an irritation in the back of our minds. "If I only had taken this line or if only I had done this mod". But hey, that's life. It happens.

Personally, if this were my truck, I wouldn't rush to fix the dent. I'd accept the ding for a while, feel what next direction I want to take the truck. You obviously use the truck for remote camping, so if you fix the dent and the same thing happens, you would have already spent the cash to fix the same problem that needs fixing again. Re: the exhaust, I would transition to the down-turn.

What trail is this? I mangled my rear bumper the other weekend. I also dented my door for the second time by touching it because the metal is so thin.

Looks like we have an option.

https://www.coastaloffroad.com/product-page/2019-ford-ranger-high-clearance-rear-bumper-kit/

Very excited, and may end up going this route.
That’s a start! It’s a good looking bumper for that style set up.

I’d love to see some hi-lift Jack points and the rear stick out a bit more to fit a swing out tire carrier. The extra rear poke would also make it easier to stand on for accessing toppers with racks, or for placing gear on (or a beer).
