I had the dealer replace my rear bumper cover under warranty because the ends were very close as in almost touching the tailgate when it is open. You could actually see the bow in the back edge. Well the new one is actually a lttle worse in that at the license plate it actually touches my plate cover which the original did not.

My question is, has anyone tried to warm the bumper cover up with a heat gun to try to reform it so there is clearance for the license plate cover and a tailgate light bar? Obvisously a low heat setting would need to be used.

Thanks for your help.

There have been reports of this on different threads.

The problem isn’t the tailgate or the bumper cover - it’s the license plate frame/cover - it is an accessory that is interfering with the tailgate - a dealer or owner-installed accessory - it’s not something that came from the factory so Ford wouldn’t have tested for it. Same with tailgate light bars.

Ditch that cover and your troubles should disappear.

There might be play in the bumper mount - maybe loosen, shift, and tighten it - worth a shot.
