so you know how you have to pull that handle pole thing behind the stearing wheal for your high beams and low beams...... I really hate that. Is there any way I can wire up a simple toggle switch I could flick to the left for high beams or flick to the right for low beams?

Let me understand, you want to take a control that you can switch between high/low beams without ever removing your hand from the steering wheel and replace it with a switch you will have to remove your hands from the wheel, doesn't make a lot of sense.

It's not a simple switch - Power & Ground to switch Low to High Beams.
It's an input signal on the Can Bus; it's looking for a momentary pulse (signal) along the bus
SCCM to GWM via (HS-Can 2) then GWM to BCM via (HS-Can 1)
It is wired this way due to Auto (High-Beam) feature & Auto-Lamps

For Ref: This is the SCCM (Steering Colum Control Module)

SCCM.webp

The Both LH & RH Multi's can be replaced separately but they connect to the SCCM circuit board

Turn Switch.webp

There are no specific inputs (wiring) for Turns or High-Low for Headlights - It's all Can Bus Communication from and to the SCCM.

Pull is for flash to pass, push is to toggle high/low beam.

I think the reason is the mental note on how it works.
If you have Auto High Beam deselected.
It operates as:
PULL = Flash To Pass
Push = High Beam / Push again Low Beam

If you have Auto High Beam - Selected
It operates as:
PULL: Flash To Pass
Push = High Beam if not already on high beam - the white indicator light will go off, auto high beam bypassed
Push again places auto high beam back into auto.

Basically if in Auto , you have to cycle the switch twice to place it back into automatic position.

The auto high beam can be turned off and on via the settings menu in the IPC

My xlt is a push for high, pull back to rest position for low. Pull towards you to flash.

thanks for taking your time explaining all that, I never really like the feel of that Steering Colum Control stick on any of my trucks but I guess with these newer trucks, its getting harder and harder to really modify anything.

speaking of which.....I have another idea in mind. not sure if I should start another thread for this question, hope I'm not breaking any rules or anything but I'll just ask.........

Is there any way to have a toggle switch to turn the back up camera on while driving (not in reverse).
like flip to the switch left for on and right to turn it off?

It should operate the same by just pushing- easier to remember, push and pull on the forward side of the switch operates the same, all it’s looking for is a switch pulse (cycle)

That is not possible. The rear camera is controlled via a communications link to the BCM, not any switched wiring.

Again that is another Can Bus input - there is always a video feed from the camera to the APIM, but the video feed display is only enabled when it sees a Reverse Signal
