2020 Lariat. Today, several of us went to the grocery store. We are out of town, BTW, so I don't have my spare fob. When we were unloading groceries the truck alarm went off for some reason (first red flag). The fob was on the dash, so I grabbed it and shut the alarm off, then tossed it back on the dash. And, my phone was inside the truck also, for future reference.

We got unloaded, shut the doors and went inside. Later, I came out and grabbed the handle... locked. Both doors locked. Fob on the dash staring at me. Phone in the tray laughing at me. Can't open the truck. Yes, that shouldn't happen with the fob inside the truck. Second red flag.

Went inside, got my wife's phone thinking I'll install the ford app, connect to my account, and unlock the truck. App won't let me finish the setup until I start the truck.

Ugg. Had to call someone to unlock the truck...took 2 minutes. $150 bucks. Guess it's better than smashing the window.

I took the emergency key out of the fob at put it inside the house, just in case.

Those are failing battery symptoms I have not heard of. Did you have any messages in the app? Maybe just a failing key fob battery?

I thought that too, and when I tried to switch apps (or install and connect my wifes phone) I could see my phone come on with a bunch of messages about another device connecting, blah blah blah. I just cleared all the message.

It could very well be the fob battery. I will investigate later. It also lost all garage door functions with the buttons on the visor. Luckily I had a remote fob for the garage doors with me.

The truck seems to run fine now, and my app was able to reconnect and start/stop, and lock/unlock the truck.

Sorry to hear about that misfortune Tom...hate to say it but leaving a remote on the dash is the first sign of failure lol...

Recently when my key fob battery was low, I was surprised to see a message similar to below appear in the cluster. It popped up every time after starting until I replaced the battery... in ALL of our key fobs!

2 years 3 months and 56,000 miles later, my battery is giving out. Had to jump start it once already. Just a really slow and low start and power steering makes the lights and everything else real dim. Only symptoms i have. Will replace the battery next year.

That is why I have always had AAA, with Premier you get a 200 mile tow. Plus lock out service or key replacement up to $150. Had insurance with them and needed to have their membership for that. Also used to be really good before google maps using them to plan road trips and get all sort of free maps..
Good piece of mind if you break down away from home only need to make one call for help. The card covers you in any car, and I have used it more for other peoples cars I was with then my own.

Hmm:

1. Yes, with the FOB inside the truck, if the door lock switch is pressed with the door ajar and then the door is closed - the truck unlocks and the horn chips 2x's.

2. The door lock & door ajar tie together with the PATs (Alarm), so something in the circuit (sticking) door lock or door ajar switch (indicating closed) and it also sensed one of the other doors opened (door ajar) and triggered the alarm.

3. Power (Tie In):
Fuse 67 in the BJB (Engine Bay- Fuse Box) (On the Bottom - Side)
Feeds all Right Side - Exterior Lighting
Both L&R - Brake Lights (Stop Lights)
Interior Lighting (Courtesy - Dome), Vanity (Visor) & HomeLink, Glovebox
Interior Panel (Backlighting)
Brake Shift Interlock & The PCM Wake Circuit
Door Lock (Status) Ind (in the door lock switches) feedback of position of the door latches.

Fuse 67 is a 50-Amp fuse, so it will take a major short to blow the fuse
However, with you stating the Garage Door (HomeLink) is not working now, then the BCM has shut power off of the circuit with the FET protection.

So, I suspect a possible issue with the door latch circuit or lock status circuit or homeLink circuit as the root cause of this issue.
I would check to see if the vanity lights are working (as they are on the same circuit as homelink)
Was this used to open the garage door (to unload) groceries?
If yes, then this may be the issue, shorted the circuit (including the door latch circuit)

Door Lock Status was lost, system presumed doors were closed from one door and the other open doors triggered the alarm. (Door Latch Issue) Sticking

The above would allow the FOB to remain in the truck and the doors staying locked.
A bad FOB battery would not tie into the Homelink (Not Working)

So, it may just be a glitch, but you will most likely find a code, just reset it and monitor if it repeats.
Note the code and post.

Thanks @airline tech. LIttle history. I have 2 homelink buttons programmed for this house garage and one programmed for home garage. A while back, one button programmed for this house stopped working and I haven't gotten around to reprogram it. When we got back to the house this trip, neither homelink button worked. I had grabbed a remote garage fob before I left, so I opened the door with that. A few minutes later, the truck alarm went off. I shut it down with the truck key fob... no idea what button I pushed, maybe the lock button?

With the fob in the truck, it should have opened when I grabbed the handle, so something lost it's mind. I'll have to dig out my dongle for forscan... it may be here in a box I brought up, or it may be at home, not sure. If at home, then I won't be back for 10 days. If it's here I'll check for codes when I have time.

For now, I'll be sure to keep my phone on me, and the spare key from the fob OUTSIDE the truck. I usually don't leave anything in the truck, but this one time with arms full of grocery bags, all the important stuff was still in the truck. Doh!

Have had AAA for years. Seldom use it, but yes good piece of mind. And their travel planning services are top notch and free to members.
