I am looking to add a GMRS radio the the truck soon. Eventually I will have HAM too, but that's a later discussion. What mount are people using to mount the antenna? I'd like a hood mount, but I am not putting holes in any of my body panels. Does anyone have a lead on a mount that goes between the hood/fender?

I used this mount, it is a little pricey for a bracket, however it works ok. It is a NMO type mount.

It was the only one I could locate.

I used the midland magnetic mount. Look at my build thread for pictures.

Totally off topic here, so forgive me. Back in my day of beach riding 25-30 years ago, my brother did mods to regular CB radios to allow them to 'swing' between channels, so we could tune to our own channel. We used regular CB mag mount antennas, mostly.

But, anyway, nice that you may have options.

Just to confirm, is this the one you are using?
That looks like the one I have for my 2/70 antenna. I picked it up on eBay. I don’t like how it makes a bigger hood gap on that side. Eventually, when I get a CB, I’ll probably switch to the ditch light brackets to mount them on. But until then, spending $80-130 for a couple of pieces of bent metal seemed dumb. I do have my eye on the 3rd brake light mount too. That one’s even more expensive, but it looks good.

@Mastodon Do you have a specific ditch light bracket you are looking at? I'm not against this option but I would like to add lights there at some point too.

That's cool, but I have 2 problems with it. 1: $300+. 2: height. I have to fit in my garage. Once lift/tires/etc are added, it would stand too tall.
Pros, and cons with both. This gives you height, 360 degree unobstructed view and antenna unscrews easily for when height is an issue or car washes etc.

Depending on your usage will determine what works best for you. I’m all about the options before I pull the trigger

I’ll probably end up with the Diode Dynamics one, although the one from Ford Ranger Lifts isn’t bad, only more expensive.

I forget who it was, I’ll have to search through the forums for it, but someone mounted their antenna and dual lamps on a single ditch light bracket. It can definitely be done.
