Colorado is the only truck that looks better than the Ranger, but Ranger is better than it in virtually every way (at least on paper). People that owned the first generations of Rangers are very, very loyal in my experience (I am one of them). Virtually every conversation I have with someone about my truck starts with them saying "I used to own a XXXX Ranger. I loved that thing!". Chevy should be worried. Toyota too.
Yeah, well I don't agree with your opening statement, so there!

True but they've been having problems with it for six years
Well, people were just using it wrong for the first two years....

I think the ranger is the best looking truck in it's category. I confess that I'm still a chevy guy, but the ranger has 'em beat. At least in my line of work.

All vehicles today are pretty good and it's my desire is to have all American manufactures be successful. Buy what you want and be happy spending your hard earned dollars.

That said, until GM changes its approach I will not purchase a GM product. For example, a number of years ago when GM declared bankruptcy the government bailed them out to the tune of paying $76/share for the stock. GM bought the first 1/3 back at $26/share, the 2nd 1/3 at $29/share and the final 1/3 at $39 (those figures are not exact but close). Guess who is stuck with the difference...that's you and I taxpayer. Then to make matters worse, and until the Fed said "No," GM was not going to honor pre-bankruptcy warranties even if the vehicle was purchased one day before the bankruptcy.

As for FCA, the only products making them money are Jeep and Ram trucks. Guess where the profit goes...back to Italy due to previous union agreements.

This has always been GMs attitude. They also held 40-50% of the entire automobile market from the 1950s until the early 80s. Today their market share hovers around 17%. Ford generally had around 25% +/- during that 50s to early 80s historical period. Today Ford's market share is around 14%. Although they both have lost a lot of market share over the past 50 years, the decline of GM is HUGE compared to Ford.

This attitude of we are the best and don't really worry about the competition hasn't really worked for them. Heck last I checked the Silverado is now in 3rd place behind the Ram for full sized pickups. It might take a few years, but the Ranger could easily take out the Colorado/Canyon in sales if Ford wants it to happen.

I predict a decent but not record-breaking quarter for the Ranger.......They will release 2nd qtr results in July. With 78K Tacomas sold and a crapload of Colorados sold, I have to wonder how large the market for these small pickups is. Maybe Ford is a tad late to the party for 2019. After it's been out for a few years (with limited TSBs and recalls), it may be the goto truck again.

However, I don't see 78K Tacoma buyers or 40K Colorado buyers trading anytime soon . Toyota, if nothing else, develops fanbois with each sale.

Not so much for Ford. I cannot consider myself a fan of ANY manufacturer. I buy the best vehicle in the class at the time I buy it. For me, in 2019 it's the Ranger. In three years maybe the Tacoma will improve and be my go to.

Never become beholden to any Car maker. They will all disappoint sooner or later.

That is the reason I own stock in Ford and not GM

I've come to the conclusion that I really don't care if GM (or Toyota for that matter) doesn't see the Ranger as a threat. I love my truck and it is fulfilling my needs very well, and that is all that matters to me.

GM lineup is not a threat to the 2019 Ford Ranger. Ford, is a threat to itself with its F-150 competing with the Ford Ranger. Next time, when you are at a Ford dealership observe how many XL trim models the dealer has on the lot. I will give you a hint - zero. The reason, I was told, at MSRP of $24,300 for the basic plain Jane XL trim model, it could easily erode the fat profits the F-150 provides for Ford Motor Company. :sunglasses:

cut GM some slack. They've only been trying to fix that POS for 4 years.

The fact that the combination of these two statements is true about many things related to GM in the past couple decades is a major factor in my extreme hesitancy to buy any of their products.

Don't forget the ignition switch debacle which GM still doesn't except blame for.

I only buy Ford products when I was a kid my dad worked at Ford stamping out deck lids and other parts. Ford put a roof over my head clothes on my back and food on the table. I have been buying new Fords since 1982 and in all those years I've only had one car that was a big problem. The problem car was the wife 15 Edge it had the infamous water leak it was so bad before it was caught it had black mold. My guy at the dealership, Mountaineer Automotive in Beckley WV who's name is Keith went to bat for us and got Ford to replace the car. Well any way one car in 37 years is a very good record.
But lets all understand I am not beholden to anyone if the day comes that Ford doesn't want my money and there products aren't any good will go else where.
