Colorado is the only truck that looks better than the Ranger, but Ranger is better than it in virtually every way (at least on paper). People that owned the first generations of Rangers are very, very loyal in my experience (I am one of them). Virtually every conversation I have with someone about my truck starts with them saying "I used to own a XXXX Ranger. I loved that thing!". Chevy should be worried. Toyota too.

That is why "looks" can't really be objectively gauged or measured. Everyone has their own opinion. I think the Ranger looks better than the Colorado (and the Tacoma). Same thing with "ride quality". Everyone has their own opinions.

The next couple of years are going to be very interesting in this segment for sure. Competition is good. I think Ford is bringing their A-Game.

Ranger has much better content than the rest and the only way any of them can beat Ranger in towing is with a diesel I don't know about everyone else but I don't want the extra expense for 200 more pounds of towing.

There are two Colorados that live in my neighborhood and both of them have slowed down and checked out my truck while driving by on multiple occasions. The GM spokesperson may say they aren't worried but all the looks I get in my Ranger say otherwise.

I'm with you on this. I've never had a vehicle that generated such attention. It's an everyday occurrence .

What else would GM say? Oh yeah we're screwed because the Ranger is way better than our Colorado?

The article made silly comparisons...
For instance comparing the tow rating of the entry level Ranger to that of the top level C/C.
You could have a spare Ranger waiting in the garage for the price of getting 200 pounds more trailer.
For me, the only "threat" to the purchase of a new Ranger was the prospect of keeping my 2001 Ranger.
Colrado/Canyon could not compete for my money against keeping my 18YO Ranger.

Maybe GM finally has a fix for their 8 speed tranny and they are feeling all cocky.

Yeah GM is not worried when they have to compare the ZR2 diesel to the base Ranger at half the price, for 200 lb ft.

Mmmmkkk

Why would it? It has the most retired employees of any company ever, and all of them "by the balls". They have to buy GM products, or their pensions will dwindle and die. GM knows this...
My father is retired from GM (35 years) and has driven Ford's most of his life (Dodge back in the 50s/60s). His pension isn't dwindling nor is it small.

My 15 Colorado with the 6 speed always hunted for gearing in slow/stop and go traffic. It drove me to hate the truck (among other nuisances) and eventually sell it back to the dealer after 4 years.

If GM were smart they'd use the 10 speed just like Ford. It's that tranny that makes the Ranger kick ass to drive with just a 2.3L engine (and able to tow 7500Lbs). Ford is using the 2.3L/10 Spd combo in the 2020 Explorer as well (and the 2020MY Explorer has a significant tow rating increase).
