Haha!

As for where the setting to turn off the auto BRAKING, it's in left screen menu under pre-collision something and there is an option to turn it off.

I know it did what it was designed to do, but so many things DON'T, it's worth pointing out something did...specifically something like this.
Totally agree!!

I had an incident where i was on an access road about to turn right into the McDonald's. Well there's a merge lane where another car was in. I tried speeding up to get in the lane but he was speeding up to. So i finally let him get out so i can turn and i almost missed my turn. So i made a hard fast turn and hit the brakes to slow it. The tires screeched but still came to a complete stop. The way the ranger handled it was pretty impressive though.

I should have been more smart about that and just let him get out of the way.. But he did have a yield sign.

It was fun making that turn though.

TFL Truck just did a drag race between the Ranger and the new Frontier. Naturally the Ranger smoked it in the 1/4, but in braking from 60mph, the Frontier stopped shorter by quite a bit. Hmmm.
Are they the same tires too though? Some tires will be near 10-15% more braking distance due to how they are designed.

This is what the manual says about AEB and Pre-collision:

If your vehicle is rapidly approaching another stationary vehicle, a vehicle traveling in the same direction as yours, or a pedestrian within your driving path the system provides three levels of functionality:

  1. Alert
  1. Brake Support
  1. Active Braking
Alert: When active, the system provides a flashing visual warning and an audible warning sound.
Brake Support: Assists the driver in reducing collision speed by preparing the brake system for rapid braking. Brake support does not automatically activate the brakes, but if the driver presses the brake pedal even lightly, brake support could add additional braking up to full force.
Active Braking: Active braking may activate if the system determines that a collision is imminent. The system may help the driver reduce impact damage or avoid the crash completely.
Note: If you perceive Pre-Collision Assist alerts as being too frequent or disturbing, then you can reduce the alert sensitivity, though the manufacturer recommends using the highest sensitivity setting where possible. Setting lower sensitivity would lead to fewer and later system warnings.

It's a pretty great system. I experienced stage two when my truck was brand new and I wasn't used to the travel of the brake pedal. I saw traffic stop on the highway merge ramp (metro area,) and I started pressing down on my brake pedal and I actually felt the truck say to me "no, STOP, idiot!" I felt dumb but agree the system is wonderful on this truck. Gave me plenty of consideration to adapt my driving style to the new vehicle.

Now if only manufacturers could find a way to program the lane keeping assist to detect left or right lane positions, the vehicles current speed, if you are actually passing a car, if an object is detected near the rear of the car, and then auto steer people to the physical right/outside lane.

It could flash lights on the dash and a message: "Warning; Selfish Twit Detected, Engaging Lane Change". It would just be icing on the cake if there was an on-board fart odor container that would also release a small amount into the air vents when the message goes off.

We help people sell their Rangers in the easiest way possible.
The other night I was taking the lady out to a good dinner and a show. Bopping along at 65ish on a well known to me freeway when I looked up just as the collision alarms sounded and flashed and traffic in the fast lane was dead stopped. I'm not sure what distracted me, but it did. I think I was checking my mirrors and rear, but uncertain, it's a blind spot in my memory.

I raced motocross for a long time and boy am I happy it honed my skills in close quarters "combat" and I hit the brakes with everything I had while remaining frightfully calm, instantly did a right-hand mirror check, calculated my expected trajectory if I chose that route, and committed.

I missed the car in front of me by probably an inch or two as I heard the parking sensors do their panic tone. I had intended to cut it close to give myself, and potential other drivers, the maximum time to move if needed.

All worked out and everything is good.

I was the idiot.

The real meat: My '21 Lariat Tremor performed phenomenally. It really saved our lives. It alerted me, and then when I jammed on the binders, it took my commands competently, smoothly, and without complaint. Then, because I was in traffic (the other 2 lanes were flowing at-speed) and didn't know how far behind me another car was, got up and when when I commanded him (his name is Moby Dick) to get back up to speed. He's not leaving my garage for a very long time.

Anyone worried about emergency handling, shouldn't worried.

Thought I'd share.

EDIT: So my brain typed "breaks" instead of brakes. Sorry, my bad!
Wow! what a close call but it's great to hear you and your vehicle were able to perform well under pressure.

I've had the alert go off one time and it certainly got my attention! I was pulling into a roundabout and the red line of LEDs displayed in the HUD as well as some frantic beeping.

I don't know if the XL displays anything in the gauge area (it only has that tiniest of screens there).

I'm not sure what it saw, I didn't see anything that seemed eminent. But I didn't need coffee for the next few hours!

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I was doing 70 in the right lane and some idiot popped out of a short ramp right in front of me doing maybe 30, dash lit up like a Xmas tree, and the alarm sounded at the same time the brakes slammed on, I ended up about 5 feet off his six, stupid drone had the gall to wave at me.

yes, the XL (well, STX) screen turns red, flashes and the radio cuts off, replaced by a beep-beep-beep

I disabled mine after it did it repeatedly when nothing was there. Hell no I don't need that garbage.

I'll figure out some way to test it, I don't think my screen has any color.

And now that you mention it, the radio must have turned off and that's why the beep-beep-beep was so loud - thanks for explaining how this works.

Yeah man it saved me once. This psycho lady in a subaru slammed on her brakes in front of me for no reason when a light turned green. She started then just stopped. That alarm saved me as I couldn't have been more than an inch or two from hitting her. Wasn't life saving, but saved me a nightmare of dealing with an accident. Then she started driving and did it again. I say psycho because she was flipping everyone off as well.
