Tree branches happen, as the saying goes. Sucks when it happens to you, though. Hope you can get it fixed at a reasonable price.
Thank You. No one was hurt which is most important and lots of people out there have worse problems than a dented hood so I’m keep that in perspective.

My deductible is 500 so that’s the most it’ll cost me , which is definitely not pocket change for me and bad time of year for unexpected expense. Maybe I’ll get lucky & they can fix it for less than they but I’m not holding my breath on that.

Bummer for sure! At least your ok, and the damage is limited to an easily replaced part of the body. It would have really sucked if it had hit the roof or bedside! That would have been a lot worse to repair. Thank goodness it didn't hit your windshield, an impact at speed on driver side could have been bad for sure. Glad your ok!

Glad you and you truck are mostly okay. I am in the new hood camp. The crease is what gives me pause, do your investigation and decide what's your best play. Good luck!

Thank you. Yeah literally if I was 1 second faster in my drive time and 1 foot to the left it would have impacted directly on the driver side window. Not sure my exact speed but speed limit is 50mph on that road so some where around that speed +/- 10mph

More & more I hope they just do a new hood vs repair. Worried if a repair on that crease would look right & hold up long term.

If it’s a new hood does it come pre-painted or will I have to leave the truck with them for days to do a color match ? I have many unknowns. Till this never have anything but windshield damage to previous vehicles, luckily

Just wanted to make a quick update. They are going with a new hood. Shop is booked till mid January which I’m fine with. Said they’ll need truck for a day to two for color matching/painting new hood. They don’t know yet if hoods are on back order or delayed part.

One other quick question. The hoods are all the same right, lariat-tremor has same hood as the others trims?

Take it to a quality body shop and you will be good. 5-6 hours of dent repair, blend the fender, should be a 2-3 day repair.

Pfft.... quit yer whinin'....

This happened to me, one morning while driving down the road. This happened right after covid started. About 40 days in the shop, to replace the roof and stuff.

When I traded this in on my Ranger in September, there was still glass that would pop out of the defroster vents from time to time.

They did say they could repair but new hood is guaranteed way to have it back to new. If my deductible was higher then it would make sense to try repair but since it’s insurance either way because it’s cheaper for me out of pocket I’m fine with the new hood plan.

I think you'll be glad you went with a new hood. If you tried repairing it, you'd always be looking at that spot with regret....then getting a new hood. :)

I just wish the dashcam had not had a bad battery in it. The moment it came off the windshield and was loose from the power cord, the video stopped and didn't finish writing what was in the buffer to the card. So, we didn't get to see my reaction. There was a lot of cussing going on as I had no idea what was actually happening.

This guy was the culprit. Geico had no balls to call the company. They ignored my calls. I checked with a few attorneys and they wouldn't touch it on contingency, which means I probably had little chance of winning a case. All I wanted was my $500 deductible. I no longer have Geico insurance. I gave them the middle finger when they wouldn't pay an additional week of the rental car because of the repair taking so long, due to covid. This was a commercial policy. They said, too bad. I said, I can't get to work and pay my premium if I lose the rental before my vehicle is done. The claim guy literally told me that it wasn't his problem.

With insurance, it will be the lesser of the two. So it will depend on the cost of the hood. Of course the bigger problem will be how quickly they can get a new hood. If they do go replacement, make sure they blend both fenders to insure proper color and metallic match.

So far my insurance has been good to deal with but we’ll see how long it last lol. I have progressive & only used them in the past for windshield replacement.

Your accident was really bad but could have been so much worse. Glad you were okay.

I’m going since the body shop which is a certified one by my insurance company says they can’t fix it & make it look right it’ll be a new hood no issues. I’m fine with repair BUT I want it back to its factory look. Not sort of but janky lol.

Will definitely make sure they color match & all that. Thanks for reminding me. It’ll be about a month till shop can work on it. It’s deer collision season out here so they are booked a month out lol.
