Guilty as charged! :)
I'm right there with you...... My wife gets upset when I split hairs sometimes and I remind her that I work with computers all day long and they are very particular - they do EXACTLY what you tell them to do, so being precise is kind of important.

How do we think the Ranger would fair in a traditional no COVID, no shortages market?

Shouldn't it be "dampered and un-dampered" ????
Yeah but it kept autocorrecting me (tampered) and I was to tired to fight it. ?

Here was my pre-Covid market feelings about used cars and trucks, which I feel the Ranger would fall in line with, had we not been faced with any market shifts. (This is based on the USA market.) All of these statements are going to be based on a hypothetical 3-4 year old vehicle.

The steepest discounts could be found on non-sports coupes because they were in least demand. I'd say 35-40% discount here.

Next would be a sedan. Sedans seemed to have the least demand for re-sale in the "family" segment, and oddly enough, the larger they got the steeper the discount. Seems wealthy people liked their new cars and had very little interest in used. With high upkeep cars one could get a very steep discount on a luxury vehicle but we all know where that leads with the pocket book. Id' say 25-35% discount on a family sedan. 35-50% discount on a luxury sedan.

Then we have SUV's. American's love SUV's and therefore it could be hard to find a good discount on a used SUV, but with SUV's the smaller they were the greater the discount, so if you didn't need a really big on you could expect to find something like 25-30% off MSRP or a used, or maybe 20-25% off for something bigger like an Explorer or Expedition.

Trucks were a different story. It could be really hard to get the right used truck even before Covid because Americans love their pickup trucks. I think again, the most one could expect to get off a used pickup truck the years pre-covid would be something like 15-20% maybe 25% off for something very "mass market" like a white F150.

But the midsize market had been neglected for some time the years before Covid struck. Ford was gung-ho on the F150 and Chevy was the only domestic holdout making the Colorado / Canyon for quite some time. I think the Ranger would have had a kind early used life with resale value no matter how you slice it because of scarcity. Compared to the competition there are just fewer Rangers on the road. So I'd say final answer, somewhere in 15-20% depreciation on the Ranger pre-Covid.

What really determines a used car's value is always going to be demand vs. scarcity. I study this very much in the classic sports car market and while the Ranger will never be hustling the market like a Porsche 911, the same forces will be at play with its overall value.

How do we think the Ranger would fair in a traditional no COVID, no shortages market?

First of all there is no replacement for your 2019 Lariat due to deleted items/features.
I have a heavily optioned Lariat fx4 that msrp at 48k and I got it 38k out the door. When I refinanced my lease to purchase last January it was retail valued at 38k, 34k trade in with 28k miles. Insane. No wayI would either sell or trade mine with the limited availabilty and ubsurb high prices. 5k in mods and I am in this truck for the long haul.
