I know I know I know its probably just the clutch type engine fan but mine does it every time I take the tuck out of park even if the truck has been running for hours and sometimes it will do it after being stopped at a stoplight and it seems to coincide with the shifting of my vehicle instead of it being timed at the startup of the vehicle and its loud sounds like I am revving my engine at 6,000 RPM's when I'm barley at 2,000 and its very sluggish but once I get going above 30 from first takeoff its fine is all of this normal Mine is a 2020 XLT FX4 with 41,000 miles on it just got it a few days ago.

Welcome to the airport takeoff scene! All of our trucks do that. This is where patience comes in. Start it and it idles high for a few minutes until it drops down in RPM. Then about 30 seconds or so later it will drop another 100 RPM. Now drop it into gear and drive! The cement mixer stays at the starting gate!

What I'm about to say may be controversial around here but the truck drive train should learn your acceleration habits and will settle down eventually. Rick is correct though about also giving it a chance to warm up.

It does it even though the truck has been running for hours so there is no let it warm up it should already be warmed up lol

Like I said in the original post its a 2020 with 41,000 miles i got it used a few days ago
My apologies. I think it's just getting used to you. People complain about mine doing that when they drive it but it doesn't do it for me. If it keeps doing it after a week or so then I would take a trip to the dealer.

Mine sounds like a heavy tow taking off in bull low. I kinda like it.

It still baffles me that Ford elected to go with a clutch engine fan over a pair of high cfm electrics. The drag on the engine from the fan is definitely causing a negative hit to the MPG.

You don't know fan noise until you hang out in front of my 87 - What did you say??

I have gotten used to it. Mine will kick on and roar some at random points. Taking off from a stoplight at temp, slow driving in parks, etc. If it is anything like my previous vehicles, it is tied to the AC usage and speed. Lots of variables there so lots of situations for it to activate.

Trash day was yesterday and when the garbage truck came down the street I thought my Ranger was taking off without me. lol I always do as you posted and let it warm up until the rpm's drop but the fan still sounds exactly like this for the first few minutes.

It seems smart to me. They eliminated two fan electric motors and wiring. Since the fan has a clutch and once past warm up settles down I don’t think it is hurting mpg. Electric motors also need energy from the alternator which also affects mileage. Its probably a wash mileage wise.

Haha, mine does that too sometimes. I actually find it rather amusing...
