I used one (additive) in my Ford Bronco six cylinder back in the 1980's and that engine did more than 300,000 Km before needing a rebuild, but in all fairness those locally produced 250 Ci Ford sixes were tough as nails and regularly known to do 500,00 Km or more in Taxi use anyway, so whether it really made any difference or not I don't know.
I've not bothered using any thing since. Just use reasonable quality oil. I tend to use good quality dual rated diesel engine oil in everything - even the ride on mower, and change it regularly. The Briggs engine in my mower has used it since new and 12 years later is still running strong despite being flogged weekly on a rough and hilly acreage block we live on.
