Had my engine cover gnawed away by some kind of rodent, pretty sure it's squirrels. They've damaged my gas tank and the soffit around the house.
But this one just seemed to be on purpose. Can anyone think of a reason why a squirrel would want the foam cover? It tastes good?

I'm not sure what the foam is made from, but if it is soy based, they may be after the protein in it.

The engine tank got damaged 3 years ago. The mechanics at the dealer wouldn't let me drive off with the gas tank exposing fumes. It sat there three days and I had to pay $2000 to replace the entire tank.
Man! those are some killer squirrels!

My guess is nest material. Over the weekend I saw a bunch of tree branches with leaves all over the deck, the tips of the branches. There hadn't been a storm so I was like WTF? At that moment another branch fell out of the tree and there was a squirrel up there, deliberately chewing off the branch tips.

My thought was it was dropping the branches and would come around to collect them for it's nest. They're still on the deck, so not sure if it will come get them or if it was just blatant squirrel vandalism.

ADDED: I was out on the deck just now and there is a nest right above the deck, so he just dropped the stuff and just replaced it with new twigs. Guess I can clean off the remains.

Make sure to paint the replacement with high leaded paint mixed with asbestos...kidding...mix hot pepper sauce with water and spray on all over...let dry then mount...

From a pest control website:

“Mice have front incisors that never stop growing. Because of this, mice must constantly gnaw and chew in order to keep their teeth filed down. If not for this gnawing, their teeth would grow to a point where eventually they could no longer eat, resulting in death.”

Due to squirrel damage? Holy crap! I think some major defense action is warranted.

Makes me understand why my late uncle called them tree rats. I like watching South Main Auto LLC on You Tube. He shows a lot of rodent damage.

Last August, squirrels chewed some wiring above the gas tank on my ranger, and light wiring on my trailer. I drive the Ranger daily, so it's not like it sat undisturbed for any length of time. I've shot 26 squirrels and counting since last August. ?
