I can remember a 3.0 v6 Taurus my wife used to drive. Tried E85 for a few tanks, lost 3-4 mpg. Ran fine. At that time FoMoCO even had a special flexfuel motor oil.

E15 is only about 1.5% less energy dense than E10, So unless you're paying over $13/gallon you're not going to see a $.20 loss at the pump.

E15 has been available in some places for over a decade. It's typically cheaper and higher octane. To my knowledge it's just going to be offered as an option. You'll still be able to purchase E10 and clear gas as normal.

Not many people pay attention to that . It started really bad somewhere around 2010 and has resumed pretty heavily recently . Companies will use the same size package as before but the weight/volume will be less . Sneaky bastards .

Wait until you go get a bag of ice. It's now 7lbs instead of the usual 10lbs. I just noticed this about 3 weeks ago and then had a friend ask me because he went to buy a bag and noticed it was smaller. Of course the price didn't go down either.

That's why I use one of those ice vending machines. $2.50 for 16lbs bag or 20lb dumped directly into ice chest.

That's a good deal, I've never seen those around here. I'm guessing it's so hot here it would cost a fortune to run one unless they were inside a store.

When I had a flex-fuel truck, I tried E85 a few times. The truck actually ran better on the E85, but my mileage was about 20-25% less on E85 (depending on what the actual blend was for the given tank).

Here, where I buy my gas, E10 usually hovers around 7% actual Ethanol +/- 1%. I suspect of the switch to E15, it will bump it a few percentage points, but I doubt we will ever see over 10% actual Ethanol content. Heck, the highest I have ever seen E85 here was about 79% Ethanol.

I use a bottle made for measuring the Ethanol. You take a sample of the fuel while filling and follow the directions. It is pretty simple concept and seems to be pretty reliable. You can find them on Amazon.

So, on the news this morning, our Prez is considering changing the fuel formula from winter mix to summer mix, AND making it E15. The gas I buy is normally E10. Along with lower milage, what else can I expect? Does anyone add any additives to combat Ethanol? Or is it a non-issue?

The crappy E15 is 88octane and most cars are rated for it. What you want is .7gal of E85 and 93 octane with 10% Ethanol. Or 93 if they go with 15%. That is actually a good boost close to 94 octane.

Around here a few stations offer 90 octane ethanol free gas. I try to run this in my mowers. My newest is a 2006 Cub which I assume would handle 10% octane since it was common when it was designed an built. My older stuff I avoid ethanol in. I put the ethanol free in my bike before storing it too.

Ah yes, the you're ok 2001 or newer so we will let you read this Big orange warning. Just don't use the E15 marketing gimmick that is 88 octane. you paid 40k-80 for your ride and want to skimp on the fuel. You will pay for it later.
