Ouch! Bessie must been a big girl to take out the whole front that way. Hope you are all unhurt. Must have been quite an impact. Look forward to hearing what its replacement is.

Hi Chris,

Sad....how fast were you going...real puzzling that the air bags did not delpoy unless the speeds were low but how would a cow do this amount of damage... Yes they are solid but.....

Best,
Phil
I was doing 50 MPH and the cow was standing in my lane as if it was crossing the road(or at least thinking about it)

For now I'm going to be driving my 1993 Pathfinder around but I have my eyes on a few different trucks

So open range means the live stock can go where evere the he'll they feel(in specified area of course). What time of day did this happen? 6:40PM so pitch black.... And yes I had my brights on. And the cow was standing in the road(my lane to be exact) as if it were crossing the road(or was then decided to stop).

Do i have to buy the cow? Nope, that is what the insurance is for.

Glad you’re alright Chris or at least we’ll enough to be writing on here. I work fire rescue and I have been on some bad accidents without airbag deployments and also some minor accidents with full air bag deployment. Your airbags should have worked, but it will be interesting to see what they say and why there was no deployment. Best of luck getting another truck in the future. Once again glad you’re ok and thank you for all the help along the way.

HI Chris,

Yep...There are fence out states or counties and fence in stated and counties. Arizona for the most part is a Fence out state... Meaning if you don't want cows in your yard, golf course, land...Then put up a fence to keep them out... If Fence in it means the cow owner has to fence his cow inside the fence. I found out when Margie and I were on a hike and we found a cow on the highway next to where we were hiking...I called the Sheriff's office to report a cow on the road....Sheriff's office told me to call the county to repair the fence on the road so that the cows can be kept off the road, not call the rancher to come get his cow.... Almost every freeway entrance or exit has a cattle guard as the freeway has to be kept cattle free with fencing cattle out...or they get to roam the roadways. Wyoming is also a fence out state....

What I found in some circumstances when I encounter a cow is if the cow is head down munching on grass etc....Slow down and pass carefully...if the cow is heads up...hit the brakes and stop as you have no idea what the cow is going to do...

I know you said BS...but this is the way of the old wild west of yesteryear...

best,
Phil
