Based on the damage you see... how fast do you think this truck was going?

It takes skill AND cunning to split a bumper like that.
Perhaps.......but totalling a Ranger in a high speed head on collision, without so much as a scratch on the hood.......now that's a good trick!

So is there an actual answer to how fast he was going?
Inquiring minds want to know...

I’m probably barking up the wrong tree here but it seems to me that a standard issue tailgate dampener would’ve helped the driver avoid that accident. The military grade galvanized unobtainum steel would’ve reflected that tree off like nothing.

Just saying.

Appears that the intrusions bars did their job.

Looks like an Isuzu D-Max/Holden Rodeo/Chevrolet Rodeo. Possibly in Thailand or somewhere like that. One of my mates used to have a Holden Rodeo with big wheels like that, he drifted onto the dirt shoulder on a sweeping bend, overcorrected and rolled 9 times. He was lucky to survive the crash because they are a right old tin can ?

My opinion is the vehicle was going forward at a high rate of speed and began to drift sideways, then backwards into the tree, likely over 60 mph at point of impact. I don't think you can generate that much speed in the reverse gear, which is lower or close to first gear.

The pic says backed into the tree. And no skid marks. Backing up to fast, 20 mph hit tree without braking. Nothing but plastic in the middle of the bumper and no hitch. The bed collapsed and saved the drivers life.
