So far the best news comes out of China...

Since they have managed to reduce their new infection rate they are starting to reopen some factories and other business places. Positive step.

Meanwhile in WA/OR, they are going to limit all public gatherings/events to 250 or fewer people. Possibly shutting down the airport as well. I’m hoping it has the desired effect over the next few weeks so local economy here can get back to it.

I went to Walmart last night and the first thing I saw was a lady with a cloth mask walking around....I really wanted to follow her and start coughing and watch her reaction  ......but I didn't.

Another chart from the UK - it is considerably LESS bad than SARS was:

1584021583662.png
if you're talking about just death rate %, but Covid19 has already killed more than double the amount of SARS and MERS combined because of the numbers it has infected.

anyway, I think the panic and hoarding people are going to is ridiculous. But also, people need to learn to be much more sanitary because of this. I'm a bus driver for a living, and I watch filthy people all day long pick their noses and lick their fingers and touch everything and spit on everything, and touch their faces and rub their eyes. The fact that someone could potentially be doing this for 14 days before they even know they're sick leaves room for them to infect a LOT more people. And that I believe is the real danger with this. Also 80% of people infected will have very mild symptoms, and many of them may not even know they have it, and IMO these people are going to be the most likely to spread it to others.

But what concerns me is my parents catching it, they're old, and while quite healthy for their age, definitely don't have the immune system of a healthy 30 year old. Also my gf has a very weak immune system after having celiac disease go untreated since she was diagnosed at 5 years old, which has cause a lot of issues for her 20+ years later. I'm quite worried that I could potentially spread it to her for a full two weeks before even having any idea that I might be sick.

So yeah, Don't panic, but also be careful and extremely sanitary.
Much better to be cautious now BEFORE it spreads too much more, than wait until it's too late, like what Italy has done.

and whether you think this is man made or overblown media hype, or whatever. The fact is that it IS killing thousands of immunocompromised people. And you can either take a few minutes of extra caution throughout your day to help ensure you don't spread it, or you can be a selfish asshole and just not care because "I'll be fine".

WHO now formally classified Covid as a pandemic.

So that’s fun.
just FYI
Definition of pandemic
(Entry 1 of 2)
: occurring over a wide geographic area and affecting an exceptionally high proportion of the population
(Entry 2 of 2)
: an outbreak of a disease that occurs over a wide geographic area and affects an exceptionally high proportion of the population : a pandemic outbreak of a disease

pandemic has nothing to do with the severity of a disease or illness, just how widespread it is.

Every term used in the description above is Subjective, so the question remains both relevant and appropriate.

you can take that up with merriam-webster.
pandemic doesnt mean plague, it means widespread.
The common cold is certainly not the plague.
By the definition ... ZITS are pandemic especially affecting children, but certainly not an adequate threat to cause panic and destroy the world economy.
How many will die as a result of economic collapse?

Actually "WHO" is the correct answer (World Health Organization)
The real question is HOW does WHO derive its existence or its authority?
Americans ostensibly rely on the Surgeon General of the United States.
Admittedly, our government is lately better known for its voracity than its veracity.

State of Ohio is closed as well.
My concern is how much faith we are putting into infrastructure, mostly this internet thing?

Colleges and universities are going to online instruction (not necessarily meaning every class will be streamed, or run live). but if they often use videos from YouTube.
K-12 closed and using alternative methods of instructions. Probably some 9-12 will be online.

Many employees being told to work from home.
Many kids needing to be entertained at home.
in the old days, every body just watched TV when they were sent home, and the broadcast TV signal doesn't weaken as more people tune in and watch.

So IT network folks, will it hold? or will it be like a hurricane evacuation - the highway is filled and nobody is moving?
