Sounds like 90% of the posts on the nextdoor app."Did you hear that?". "I heard something... Did you?... I know I heard that... What was that.... "
Personally, I reject the idea of most social programs.I was calling that statement naive, not making a personal attack. If you want me to dissect and explain my assertion i'd be more than happy to. But I would actually be interested in hearing your take on U.S. social programs. I have a curious mind and like to understand people; and why they hold firm beliefs, one way or another.

well said!Personally, I reject the idea of most social programs.
Neither of us will ever be able to fathom the impact on our freedoms inflicted by them.
I would have opposed the imposition of Social Security and Medicare for instance, and certainly the subsequent embellishments of them. I have lived long enough to see the consequences of Medicare from its inception. I did not get the opportunity to vote for either.
The very structure of our society has been altered by these and other programs to such a degree that any hypothetical discussion of what it would be like without them would be futile.
Therefore, I do not advocate their abolition, but I do oppose any further expansion of federal intrusion of this type.
I believe the federal government was established to protect the fundamental rights of individual citizens and to provide for mutual trade and common defense.
Any government big enough to give you everything you want , is big enough to take everything you've got.
Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying that " Most bad government has grown out of too much government".
Honestly, that's a fair stance. At very least it's a consistent stance, which is uncommon. Thanks for sharing! I don't agree with all social programs, but I appreciate the benefits of some. I'll agree to disagree on whether the merits justify the cost (fiscally and in terms of our rights). Personally I like some, but not all. For one I support M4A, which I think would help in organizing our COVID-19 response.Personally, I reject the idea of most social programs.

Pretty sure all that is country-wide now. Same over here on the right coast. Here in CA people are already nuts, so many of them going nuts out in public(even more then usual). People wearing face masks more often(even though they do not even protect you from catching airborne coronavirus), stocking up on toilet paper to the point where there is no toilet paper anywhere. Hardly any canned food left at any supermarkets and even the politicians are giving away all of our tax dollars to the homeless and illegals, oh wait that was already happening before coronavirus.
I'm stickin with an old trick from my bachelor days when I was always out of TP: Coffee filters. Never a run on those. There's still washable toilet cloth available on Amazon

So I guess the survivalists are feeling pretty smart right now.Great idea!I'm stickin with an old trick from my bachelor days when I was always out of TP: Coffee filters. Never a run on those.

My brother says as long as there are leaves on the trees, he's fine! So, here in San Antonio, they have been shipping "evacuees" to JBSA Lackland. So far, that's been the extent of exposure to the city. But this morning, they reported the first travel related case where someone traveled out of state and then returned and started feeling the symptoms.
Our mayor, whom I think is a nincompoop for other reasons than this, iterated that the hoarding of sanitary items needs to stop. If a person buys 20 hand sanitizers, that leaves 19 people without the ability to buy the product and protect themselves, which in turn, leaves those 19 people more suspectible to sickness.
I, for one, have not gone ape shit crazy buying paper products and such. I only buy what I need, but damn, my wife uses like a whole roll of toilet paper in one day. If the mass panic doesn't subside soon, looks like we...I mean she will be using a washcloth soon.
