Collision avoidance is available on all trim packages and it can be fully adjusted or turned off in the driver assist settings on the dash.

My XL STX had the red LED strip and the four front bumper sensors that works for both parking assist and collision avoidance.

I'm not sure if it's a Lariat only feature but you can shut it off. On the steering wheel go to settings and driver assist then to driver alert. The first thing I did was turn it off, I can't stand that thing going off all the time. There are times it'll go off at under 100 miles of driving and it's more of a distraction than anything.
Sometimes I wish I could replace the whole dash. Android Auto forced an update ("Update will be required to continue using") and now I have safety pauses when I scroll through songs and can't select a saved destination in Waze anymore unless I pull over.

Wow that's crazy. I don't use it much but I'm sure Apple Car Play will be doing the same soon if it already hasn't. I do like some of these safety features (like the collision avoidance) but I also want the ability to turn them off if I chose to.

I avoided updating for a long time cause I knew they were going to pull bs like this but they just disable AA then.

XLT also has it, at least with tech package. I've never had the alert, but can go to the menu and see where the driver alertness currently sits. Presumably it'll flash on the screen when needed...

Yes the center dash screen will definitely flash when the C/A engages. You will also hear a bunch of rapid beeps through the speakers.

I was referring to Driver Alertness:
"I've never had the alert, but can go to the menu and see where the driver alertness currently sits. Presumably it'll flash on the screen when needed..."

The driver alertness is found in the same part of the menu on the dash screen as the C/A and is fully functional on the XLT with the 302A package.

I know :) What I wrote -- that you quoted -- is this:
"XLT also has it, at least with tech package. I've never had the alert, but can go to the menu and see where the driver alertness currently sits. Presumably it'll flash on the screen when needed..."

I'm not sure what you're responding to :p

My XLT will lock the brakes sometimes when someone 100 yards in front of me makes a turn.

Glad it worked and saved your butt Mike. This is the first vehicle I've owned with all these features and it's nice to have them. The only thing I don't like about the C/A is that I get a lot of false alarms with it. It's mostly other vehicles just turning to the right (it never happens to the left) and my dash will light up. Other than that I love it and glad I have it.
Hey AZ I have had a few falsies as well but I leave it on . My favorite I was behind a stainless steel water tanker one time that was leaking and it went off 2-3 times following him until I went around him .....weird. Love it and glad I have it too........

I've been beeped at probably 20-30 times (in 30K miles, that's not so bad), but mostly from lane changing, getting around slow-moving traffic. You know, the two cars driving at the same speed next to each other, one speeds up 2mph so I weave through.

I've never had it apply brakes so I guess i'm doing something right?

It's definitely a love/hate relationship lol but I leave that one on. I just don't like the driver alert. That darn cup of coffee pops up way too soon and is more of a distraction (and annoyance) than anything. That was the first to go and leave off.

Thought I'd add myself to this list. Driving back roads trough the mountains of West by God Virginia today, and looked down at the console for a few seconds; collision detection starts screaming. Looked up to see the ass end of a car with break lights. I stabbed the brakes and everything in the bed hit the cab. I'm sort of surprised it didn't brake for me with as close as I was.... or maybe I just thought I was closer than I was.
