Only had the ranger for a few days, and I'm not totally sure what options are on it since I bought it used. It's a '22 XLT with sport package. When the lane keeping mode is on, I see the warning light, but that's all I can notice happening if I drift over the line. Also, today I changed lanes while passing closely to a car, and the collision warning came on, but there was no braking applied automatically. So are there two options available, one that just gives warning, and another that actively adjusts steering or braking?

What the lane assist action is can be adjusted in the main menu under driver assist.

The collision warnings action is based on what it perceives the danger to be. I get the warning quite often when someone slows in front of me and I change lanes with out braking. It will apply the brakes to avoid a collision.

Thanks, I'll just have to trust the braking system will work when called upon! I'll look for the lane assist actions

Spend the time to read the manual, these systems are described there. If you didn't get a manual a web search will net you a PDF version.

It’s important to know the Pre-Collision Assist will eventually initiate braking if you don’t but it won’t steer your truck or bring it to a stop.

I think it's designed to reduce impact not come to a complete stop short of hitting something.

I want to get some tall orange cones an drive at them in a parking lot an see what happens.

Great idea - if you do this be sure to post about it.

If you had adaptive cruise and it was active it will start braking much earlier, before the collision warning, unless you have your foot on the accelerator enough to override the adaptive cruise's braking.

youtube has numerous videos that can educate new people on these systems.

1. Our trucks have lane departure warning with lane keep assist. The settings can be adjusted on dash screen to have it vibrate the wheel and have a slight steering correction to try to keep you in the lane. It does not have lane centering, so it will push you back to the lane and that is it. There's three options in the menu I believe. I think its Off, Vibrate only, or Vibrate plus corrective steering.

2. The forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are just as others said. It flashes the warning and if it perceives an immediate emergency it will brake to decrease the speed of any potential collision.

Here's the online owner's manual.
Collision Avoidance is standard on all Rangers, the Lane Assist is an option.

I think it's a matter of balancing needs. There are a number of variables:

1. Tire condition
2. Road condition (wetness, temperature)
3. Weight of truck + gear

All of these have an impact on stopping distance, and setting the braking to kick in at distances where all three are at their worst would create a system that seemingly brakes far too early for most.

Combine that with the fact that open lanes, passing, etc. exist. Locking the brakes conservatively when the lane next to you is open (and you intend to shift into it), would also not be a favorable driving experience to most (though certainly safer than weaving through traffic, which I am occasionally guilty of).

The result is a balance - it may not bring you completely ot a stop in all scenarios, but it also won't lock your brakes 3x on a commute.

I've had mine beep at me maybe 5 times in 25K Miles. It's never applied the brakes, but then again I've not rear-ended anyone and I think it's still working properly.
