My 2020 ranger (bought new in oct 21) has 53k miles in it. Dealer is recommending Carbontek service

don’t trust a thing the dealers say. Wondering what you guys think. Is it needed, is it worth it?

thanks

I hadn't heard of it. Looked it up an sounds interesting. What are they charging? 53K might be low mileage to have it done at but if it's cheap enough I might consider it.

Not sure how much they want. Dealer I went to was terrible. I only noticed it on the paperwork under “declined services” that I was never even offered after I left.

Where is the dealer you went to? Looks like there are only 7 places in the US that do this.

Well, brother, it's hard to tell you if it's worth it when you don't know how much they want for the service, but call me crazy.

So, did they actually recommend the service to you?

Just googled up
carbonteck cost" in general....Mazda site came up with $168. So I would guess at a Ford dealer, around the same + or - a few bucks.

First I've ever heard of that, but that doesn't mean much. LoL

At 53k miles? Yep, seems like you shouldn't need a service like that unless you've had some sort of problem.

Sounds like it does the same cleaning a simple $10 buck can of Sea Foam does......

Seems like all they do is pump hydrogen thru the running engine.
I have only 3 words for you.......

Remember The Hindenburg !!!!

"Using our state-of-the-art Hydrogen Generator, hydrogen gas is introduced into the air intake, the hydrogen reacts with the carbon in your engine to turn it back into a fuel vapor. This vapor is then burned cleanly out the exhaust with no harmful chemicals. This service reduces emissions, restores lost power and fuel mileage."

riiiiiiggghhhhttt... yeah, that's gonna be a pass for me dawg... ??

I wonder if I stand in front of my Ranger while it's running, and fart into the grill/air intake area if it would have the same effect ?
I mean hydrogen and methane are both flammable gasses, right............
